I am a SRO Premium lost soul. Mostly benefited from the knowledge of the community. JeGagne, a 340, is my second Sea Ray. We boat on Kerr Lake, a relatively isolated body of water with 850 miles of shoreline on the NC, VA border. Thankfully not much has ever gone wrong with the boat, so my technical knowledge is limited but will help when ever I can. Looking forward to having the posts return to problem solving.

Good to see you JeGagne340.

Alex-

What is Smith Mt. Lake like? Hear it can get crowded at times.
Like the look of your canvas. My 340 is actually the same hull design as yours.
Think it was one of the last made before the change to a wider beam.

SML is great. Not as busy as other lakes in the NC VA area, except on holidays. Lots of marinas, even though slips are rare and at a premium. Lots of restaurants and things to do. It has a state park with a lot of coves that will never see home construction and the view of the mountain is spectecular.
It is also a very deep lake with very clean water. We love it.

I can see your's is an "old style" 340. We actually considered both the new and old style 340 and could have bought both. We deliberately chose the old style. It has a much more practical layout on deck and in the cabin than the new style and is 1500 lbs. lighter than the new style 340. The old style hull design is also better for lake boating (19d deadrise instead of 21d on the new 340).

What are the last four characters of you HIM? Mine are B202 indicating the built date. Also what is the number under the HIN on your boat indcaitn the number of this hull. Mine is 340DA1974. What is yours??

Alex-

My HIN ends in F203. Don’t know the number under it but will look this weekend although it currently looks like a rainout.
Could not agree with you more on the layout and weight of the “old style 340†not to mention the cost differential.
Smith Mt Lake sounds alot like Kerr just more developed. We hardly have
any home construction visiable but lack marina's (there are only three on the whole lake) and resestaurants. The isolation is beautiful and makes for a great get-away.

That is interesting! Your HIN indicates that your boat was built in June 2002, but is a 2003 model

F=built month (June) 2=built year(2002) 03=model year (2003)

I never knew that the old style 340 was sold as a 2003 model year ever and had not seen one for sale ever either!

You are right ... the cost differential also helped. We would have had to pay another $25K for the cheapest 2003 new style 340 on the market and it would not have had the camper we have and really need.
