A great number of the "boaters" there shouldn't call themselves "boaters" and the vast majority of that number should not be out after dark and definitely not without adult supervision.
Fireworks on Saturday night are great. Anchor in front of Portsmouth Naval Hospital. There will be a lot of boats. Plan on arriving early for a good spot to anchor. There will be many drunks operating boats when the fireworks end. I alway wait for about 1 hour after the fireworks end because the drunks act like it is the Indy 500 when leaving. Or you can spend the night on the hook. It is a great time, and I am all for having fun and a few adult beverages but I have passengers (family) on board and it is my responsibility to make sure we all return home safely. Enjoy the festivities, just wait a little bit after the fireworks to head back home.
