Noise Level on 410 Express Cruiser

As you can see, I have a 2001, 410 Express with 450 Cummins. I cruise at 2200 rpm at about 23 knots. WOT at 2650 rpm is 31 knots. I could care less about deciible levels. With carpet in the cockpit normal conversation is ok at cruise speed and I just keep quiet at WOT and just wimper as I look at the gas gauges.

The standard carpet offers very little true sound reduction. Maybe 1 decibel. It's value is cosmetic. Sounddown makes a thick "carpet pad" that's about one inch thick, heavy foam and lead sheeting. Weighs about 10# per square foot. I've used it on my Wellcraft. It may have lowered the sound level 3-4 decibels. I was hoping for at least 5. (5 decibels is a tremendous improvement.) For the price I was disappointed. Sealing off "leaks" gets you the most bang for the buck. Underwater exhaust helps.
BTW, the EC in Tennessee had junk engines. Shouldn't Cummins 6CTAs last more than 1100 hours??
