new to this but here goes. My 1998 5.0 efi mercruiser cranks but will not catch. Noticed no fuel from injectors. Any thoughts.

Hi Espos4, sorrry but I forgot to mention that the no start is with my port motor. Starboard starts up with no problem. Buddy of mine said it could be the pick up coil. Just wondering about that

Okay. Also check the shift interrupt switch.

Alpha’s use this to momentarily reduce engine speed to make gear changes a little smoother.

does the fuel pump run?
Do you at least have fuel pressure in the rail?

Classic symptom of a bad ignition sensor. When it fails the fuel pump is also inhibited.

a bad sensor can be swapped between engines to verify If it is bad.

have fuel in rail getting to throttle body. Just no fuel from injectors. Is the sensor you are talking about the ICM

The ignition sensor is located in the distributor under the rotor. About $100.
And, on the efi engines it is a common fail item. Mercruiser actually came out with a new and improved sensor.
I do need to correct myself though. A bad ignition sensor will inhibit the fuel injectors.

Thanks to all for all the info. Will follow up when I change the sensor.

I have the 4.3l mercruiser 190hp and just went through a no start issue. I didn't have anything but a multimeter which I used to rule out my battery, solenoid and coil. I replaced a corroded cap and rotor but it was the ignition switch that fixed it. Good luck to you.

Hi to everyone who give me advice on my no start problem. Replaced the ignition coil and problem solved. Thanks again to all.
