No more bottom cleaning

Apparently NC has another new law. I was told it will be against the law as of April to have a diver clean the bottom of the boat with the exception of the running gear. Also new bottom paint must be copper free going forward. My diver used to get $2/foot to clean the underside. I guess that fee will go down if he is only doing the running gear. NC leading the way in taxation and job destruction.

Do you have a copy of new law or a cite to it? I would like to see the exact wording. A google search didn't find it. Thanks.

What do I know...

So move to South Carolina. I did. Diver is cleaning the bottom of my boat in a few hours.

We have been discussing where to move next. But need 6 more years in NC for the kiddos.

The law seems illogical, the act of cleaning a boat bottom should never be made against the law. I can see the regulations on the chemicals, but not the act of washing...

Just more government overreach...

Mike,
I agree with you. This seems a bit over the top. What's next? Outlaw car wash fundraisers? This country is going down the crapper slowly but surely.

I believe we have it here in Maryland or will have it here very soon. I sit on the board at our marina which is on a military installation and we have been hearing rumblings about the haulout and cleaning. Especially this thing about the "Clean Marina". We had a sink hole in the road and had to be careful with what type of stone we put in should it be closer than 65ft from the water.
I think the evironmentalist groups need to remove the barnacles and slime from the water then we wouldn't have to paint the bottoms.

Actually, I dont' believe it is a law (yet), ask them to provide more information. Instead it is a marketing program by the NC Dept of Natural Resources coastal management and a nationwide environmental education thingy (http://dcm2.enr.state.nc.us/Marinas/clean.htm). The idea - marinas were to voluntarily submit to these "green" rules in order to get a "Clean Marina" stamp of approval. The program in NC started in 2010 and never really took off. A few of my friends in NC Dept of Natural Resources informed me recently that they've been asked to spread the word a bit more on the program and "encourage" marinas to put policies in place. What your harbormaster probably was voicing was a new policy of the marina, not a law.

I saw a diver cleaning boats yesterday, with his pressure washer. ??????????????????????

I think the environmentalist prefer the barnacle to the boat. If they had their way, the barnacle would be a protected species and boating activities would be deemed illegal. Sooner or later, anything a human does to alter the planet in any way shape or form will be deemed illegal...mark my words.

You are right about that! Environmentalists spend 90% of their time justifying their existence and 10% is spent running a hard working farmer off his own land in order to protect a rat!
