Some members may recall I fired the admiral last fall for drunken dereliction of duty. I was really concerned the impact that would have in my boating season with a 2 and 5 year old as a single parent. Happy to report that the hour meter on the boat and boat day tics on my calendar show 30% more running hours and 60% more boat days.If I ever recruit another one if the chief requirements will be must be willing to boat at least 3 days per week from 01 may through 31 oct.

I fired the first admiral as well a long time ago. My kids were 5 and 3 then. Named the boat “my half” and also used it far more post firing than pre. Fast forward 2 decades and 6 boats, still use it every sun shining weekend day during the season.

I'm extremely fortunate my income and medical benefits are taken care of with a veterans pension so I can boat any day of the week without the bothersome job thing getting in my way. Grade 1 for my 5 year old first mate started last week so that's a bit of a pain in my buttocks but he may just have to call in sick here and there till ice up
The one thing lacking is fishing since my newest recruit is a bit of a handful and I'm not ready to introduce field medicine to remove barbed hooks to him yet but by next year the wee lad will be ready for that.

I hired an Admiral who could care less about boating but fully supports (and encourages) my boating habit. Best admiral ever!

I invited a young girl to go on a date in what was at the time my new boat. She liked it and we went out again. That was 48 years ago. She soon became my admiral and has been my first mate ever since. Many new boats have come and gone since then and our boating time has only increased. Along the way 2 young boys appeared and they both now have boats of their own. We often meet up on the sandbar for a "family" day. All of our vacations are a family affair with multiple boats.

Sorry to be the naysayer in the conversation. I know it may be hard to do, but if you pick the right one the future will be bright.

My first admiral kept complaining that I always spent Saturday fishing w the boys.

So I invited her to come along. 4 guys heading out of Government Cut in Miami at 5am in 4 ft swells on my 21 Mako while we rigged ballyhoos.

That woman turned every shade of green by sun up. It was a scene
right out of the exorcist. Hehehe.

    She never complained again. ;)

I suppose there is a thread somewhere in some message board titled: "Ditched the husband who loves his boat more than me".

When I first met the lady who would eventually become my wife, I took her out for an evening cruise on my 330 Sundancer. As most of you know, when you walk down the steps into the cabin the thing that is staring you right in the face is the BED.

She didn't say anything about it at the time but months later she laughed when she told me her first thought was "Now I know why he brought me out on the boat."

    Hmmmm, little did she know!

Since my ex left I first got a 21’ Monaco... then a 340 Sundancer... and now a 400 Sedan Bridge. It’s amazing how much money I have when there isn’t a woman to spend it...

My wife of 30 years said "if you want to keep up with this boating crap... You need to get a bigger boat"... That's the perfect wife :)

This thread is kinda sad. Boating is supposed to be a family thing. A good way to guide teenagers into becoming responsible adults. Show me a family where the spouses lead separate lives and I'll show you kids up to no good.

We designed, ordered and bought all of our boats together. If I lost the wife I would be too sad to go boating.

But that's just me. Ignore the ramblings of an old fart.

Mine did too. We are currently debating between the 340 and 370. She likes the bigger one. I think it's too much to wash and wax each year.

I am afraid I would be in the same shape as you, Jim. But, this is my third wife and first Admiral. First couple wives were more of a burden than an asset. I wouldn't be a boater without my wife. She helps make all this possible.
