NMEA 0183 - Seatalk- Seatalkng

Thanks Al, My VV Display is actually in good shape and works well. I lost the GPS data when I removed the E120 and installed the gS165 but that is just temporary until I install the right antenna and nmea gate way. I was thinking of the 403 just because as I am spending money now and running network cables it seems like a good time to upgrade the engine data system. I'm wondering now though if there is a way to display all the data only on the MFD and eliminate the VV display altogether? I do like redundancy should the MFD fail though but I do want to retain my OEM analog instruments.

Yes, with a Smartcraft-NMEA 2000 gateway, either Mercury or Yacht Devices (may be others), you should get all the data currently being displayed on VV available for use on your MFD (except generator as noted in my previous post). Whether you can display that data on your MFD may be an issue you need to check. The gateway documentation should have a list of NMEA sentences (aka PGNs) that the gateway is providing. Likewise, your MFD documentation should list what sentences/PGNs the MFD will display. Sometimes you would need to customize the gauge screen to show the particular data element. BTW, the N2K gateway should be able to coexist with your legacy Smartcraft gear. Remember that a newer VV has an imbedded N2K interface so is in effect, also a gateway.
