Nice deal on LCD TV for 380/410 dancers and possibly others

I am kidding about the installation but would like the parts list. This looks like a great project and I will have some "alone" time in a few weeks when the bride visits friends in Kentucky for a few days....I'll have no where to go and all day to get there!!!

Master TV installed and the DVD Player hooked up....very pleased with the fit.....I think I have the "keeper" figured out....but it needs a little tweaking over the weekend.

Frank...I'll put a parts list together and post later....

quick word about mounts. not all have the knobs dominic is talking about. some have set screws that you need allen wrenches to tighten (pain in the a#&). always look for a mount with knobs.

i did the same install in the salon. Same hardware. I put in a angle iron to backup the mounting point on the cabinet.

Did you sneek a picture of my boat?

I thought about using a backer plate with nuts and bolts to attache the mount. But after I used the oversized wood screws, the thing just feels solid. But....now that you got me thinking..... :smt017 .....maybe I'll revisit my plan....

What did you use to "keep" the TV up against the cabinet opening?

I put in an eye bolt in the back of the cabinet cavity, and then attached bungee cord to the eye bolt. I sneak my hand behind the TV, and attach the other end of the bungee to the TV mount.......really holds the TV solid up against the Cabinet opening......I plan to put up adhesive backed weather striping around the perimeter of the cabinet opening so that the TV lays up against a "cushion"......

When almost in closed position, I slide my hand and fully tighten the last knob and push the tv in place. Usually never moves or a worst it moves a 1/2 of an inch in nasty conditions. Friction is your friend.

I put a couple of felt dohickies (like on a glass table)on all 4 corners of the tv to protect the cabinet.

I finished the back of the opening to make a cabinet.

Go for the backing plate. With wood screws alone, friction is not your friend. I used metal shelf bracket hanger and drilled out the proper size for the bolt. It will be fun getting the nuts on. Be creative.

Got any pics.....?????

I doubled back on a long bungee which is attached to an eye bolt in the back of the cavity. I take the looped end and place it over the knob on the mount that is closest to the TV. I also used edge guard that I bought in Home Depot to outline the perimeter of the vitracore cavity....the clear plastic kind that you put on your sheetrocked corners in your home to protect the paint/wallpaper........I used the self adhesive type. Between the two, the TV doesn't move a bit....we took a spin last night and all seemed well.

I still may ad the backer plate and go to nuts/bolts....

The deal just got a little better....Circuit City has a two day special on the element 19".....$219.00.....today and tommorrow....

SkipH...I emailed the file...let me know if you didn't get it....

Well, well. Wouldn't you know it, both of the TVs on my newly purchased 370 are dead. They worked fine at the survey. Weird. Don't know why or how they died on the same day at the same time, but I pick up two of these sets tomorrow together with two upconverting DVD players. No complaint from the admiral especially when I showed her the manufacture date of 9/97 on the old sets and demonstrated the volume of space she picks up for storage. Hope these new sets last as long as the old ones.

can you offer a bit more help with getting the old TV out? i have basically the same arrangement as your boat on my 38da. i tried to gently pry the black lip in front of the tv to get it out as you suggested, but it does not lift and i am afraid that it will break if i force it. it goes around 3 sides. also, it looks like it has clear caulk around the base of the lip. am i back to removing the refridg to get the old tv out? thanks, jim

Jim:

That black valance is held down by 5 or 6 plastic 'christmas tree' fasteners. You have to first get a very sharp razor and score the light coat of caulking. It's best to use two 3/4" stiff putty knifes to pry up the valance. I was nervouse too, but trust me...it just pops up. If you end up breaking one of the christmas trees, it's really no big deal....I broke one....but the valance goes back on easy enought. You have to get it off as there is no other way to remove tv with it still in place.

good luck...

thanks for the quick reply. i will give it a try. sounds like even if i pull the refrig i would still need to pop off the valence to get the tv to clear the opening. appreciate the advice. jim

After reviewing the early threads on this topic I lost my 2 15" TVs due to a voltage surge. Ir replaced them with the Element TVs and they fit inside the factory holes perfectly. I think the picture is outstanding and the stereo features work well in small cabins. There is a requirement to view nearly straight on. A steal at these prices. I am happy with them.

Dom,
Thank you for posting this info on removing the TV. You instructions were perfect!

Dom did a lot of great posting. We lost him last August. Rest in Peace Dom, your threads still live on as you do in our hearts and minds.

This message sent while enjoying a great weekend on Dom's last boat - and I still wish he was enjoying it and we were still shopping.
