The NFL rule book states: "Loss of team time out(s) or five-yard penalty on the defense for excessive crowd noise." I have never seen this called and the broadcasters celebrate and even keep records of the decibel levels. If it is so loud a human cannot think can a fair game be played? Why is the rule in the book?

I remember when the QB used to just stand there and let the ref know he can't make the calls due to excessive noise. They would throw a flag and assess a 5 yard penalty to the home team. The home team started asking the fans to quiet down so the would not receive the penalty. What happened to that and why did they change it? It seems ridiculous that a team's fans can impact a game that much. The Saints had no chance from the beginning and then the Seachickens played great.

You're all just jealous. Play the game, quit whining about the fan support. I've been to several SeaHawks games over the years and since the new stadium and uniforms the 12th Man rumble saw how our voices could make it tough on the opposing team. Why have fans in the stands at all if they can't support their team and cheer. Now Mike, you want to 'limit' it? Come on man! This is the NFL. BE LOUD, cheer on your team and make it a place they don't want to play. We have fun with the opposing fans in the stands too. I've always been respectfully teasing those that come into our house. I'm not a confrontational or violent fan, but I love the Seahawks and it's a blast to be part of that insane crowd. I watched the SF 49ers play St. Louis Sunday, and saw many SF fans sitting in their seats on a 3rd and 2 play. I was in shock. Seahawks' fans don't sit nearly the entire game, especially on the opposing team's 3rd and 2.

#GOHAWKS!!! Can't wait until Sunday Ken. This should be good.

I have no horse in last nights game but since the coverage included the noise levels I thought it an interesting topic to discuss.

We were told the stadium was built to maximize the noise. So we are not talking about cheering but rather an engineered advantage. Is that sporting?

One team performed their choreographed plays at a reasonable sound level, while the visitor had to perform at what OSHA calls an unsafe work environment. Is that sporting?

But like so many things in our world technology, in many ways, is ruining the game I love.

Arrowhead is loudest.

Seattle has set the bar for loudness — again.

Seahawks fans set the Guinness World Record for crowd noise back in September, when they reached 136.6 decibels in a home game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, that mark didn't last long as Kansas City took the record in October when Chiefs fans reached 137.5 decibels.
Well, the crown is back in King County, Wash. How appropriate.
With the Guinness people in attendance, the crowd noise at CenturyLink Field reached 137.6 decibels in the first half of Monday night's game against the Saints.
What's more, the 12th man also caused an earthquake during Michael Bennett's interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. The Seattle Times reported that the fans jumping up and down registered a Magnitude 1 or 2.
I'd say congratulations on the new record, but nobody in the stadium would hear me anyway.

dammit. I was at Arrowhead for that guess i've have to jump a flight for another game this year.

In a word:

Sportsmanship

MN

and you're in favor of the NFL making it a flag football league either right? It's football, a rough and tough sport where people get hurt, and hurt bad. That's why it's the biggest sport around and these guys get paid what they get paid. Did you happen to see the Ohio State and Michigan game being played at the Big House? 107k people. Since it's college I bet they were as quiet as could be to preserve SPORTSMANSHIP.

Why do you assume to know other peoples opinions just because they ask a question? Who said quiet? I have asked if engineering a stadium to gain advantage is sporting. As a matter of fact, that is not "just fans cheering". So is it?

I don't remember anyone really worrying about the noise until they started winning" Why is it only now a problem or unfair advantage?

Mike, I've heard that rumor about the stadium being engineered to "reinforce and amplify" sound.

My response to this is "Prove It!" She me the engineering notes that prove that a desire to make the stadium louder was any part of the original plans or designs.

Until then, remember the old saying...."Put up or...."

The Hawks last night really spanked the Saints. They out played them, out ran them, out passed them, stopped their high ranked offense and defense and dominated in every facet of the game.

Oh, and during the post game interview, Drew Brees said that while the stadium was loud, it didn't interfere with the Saints' ability to communicate on the field. So much for the complaints about the noise.

So play it in the cold like GB, Da Bears and others do. No dome to hold the sound in. It aint football unless someones scraping the snow off the yard markers. LOL.

BTW my GB sucks this year. Who would of thought Detroit would be number one in the NFC north.
