What does that mean?

I was trying to get the line for this Sundays Packers Dolphins game and it say “Off” with no explination.

My guess is they don’t want to accept any bets because of the unknown answer on several key players due to injuries but that is just a guess.

I’m hoping someone here could help explain what odds “Off” means.

I know absolutely nothing about betting.... so I guess you all would be the best people to ask questions about. How do you read the odds and place a bet?

I have never been a gambler, but wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

"The point spread - also called "the line" or "the spread" - is used as a margin to handicap the favorite team.

For betting purposes, the oddsmaker predicts that the favored team will win by a certain number of points.

This number of points is the point spread. The favorite is always indicated by a minus sign (e.g. -5.5) and the underdog without (e.g.5.5). If you bet on the favorite, you win your bet if the favorite wins AND their margin of victory is greater than the point spread.

If you bet on the underdog, you win if the underdog wins, ties, or if the favored team wins but fails to exceed the point spread. It is standard for point spread bets in most sports that you wager $110 to win $100."

OFF usually means that they are not providing a "line" on that game or the wagering facility in NOT accepting bets on that game.

OFF means that there isn't a line yet usually due to injury. If the determination of the injury is settled and they know if the player will play or not then they will post a line.
At least that is the way it was explained to me

Gee, send me 110 bucks, and I'll guarantee you will win a hundred.

"Honey, I think I've figured out how to get that 42 Sundancer.."

Can you clarify this for me, as I said I have no experience betting at all.

The people taking the bet are in business to make a profit.

Let’s say you are a bookie. You take two bets on a game, one for each team.

Each person pays in $110, so you now have $220 in your pocket. Often money is not actually exchanged until later but you get then idea.

The teams play, one wins. You pay the winner $200. Your profit is $20.

Normally betting between friends eliminates this profit money the bookie makes. I don’t bet with bookies, I play for fun, small wagers, sometimes its other funny stuff not money, between friends.

If you have a group of people there are other games you can play like squares. Again, no bookie, 100% pay out, small wagers normally $20 max.

With squares you don’t bet on who will win and there is no skill, just luck. It’s just a fun way to add some excitement to the game.

I'm sure there are hustlers.......'em, I mean teachers who will show you the ropes. Show the money and they will come.
