Planning a trip to Newport this summer. Looking for thoughts on Newport harbor hotel and marina or Gurneys Newport on goat Island.
I keep my boat at Gurneys Montauk so there is reciprocity at the Newport location, but don't want that to be a deciding factor.
Thoughts on either one from those of you who have been there?
Any others I should consider?

Heading to Marthas vineyard after that so any other recommendations there would be appreciated.

Newport Harbor Hotel would be my choice. It’s right downtown near all the action, shops, restaurants etc. Goat Island is quite a hike on foot or bike to get to the main town area.

Agreed. I like gurneys and hotel is better but you can’t beat the location of Newport harbor hotel. Marina staff are always awesome at Newport harbor hotel as well

I also concur, due to the location Harbor Hotel wins that hands down. We stayed in the marina for the 2019 Newport boat show, was great to be able to walk back to the boat for a quick break!

For the second part of your question the best of Martha's Vineyard in my opinion is Edgartown. There are very few marina spots in Edgartown, any of them are good but you need to book them close to opening day if you want to visit from July to mid-August. Edgartown has great mooring service but you also need to book those early for peak summer weeks especially with your boat, there aren't that many moorings for larger boats.

Second option with more Marina's is Vineyard Haven, either Black Dog or Vineyard Haven Marina.

I’d vote for Newport Harbor hotel as well. Only advice would be to get a closer slip to their office. Have been assigned their dock which is closer to the ferry. I think it’s their D dock. Lots of late night drunks in that area as it’s closer to the ferry loading area. As for the Vineyard I would also look at the Marina at MNemsha and OB. OB is more public as it’s a bulkhead but has more of an evening /night life than Edgartown. Each has their own “charm”.
