I got the boat last summer, traded a fellow for some remodel work on his house.

Story was..... he had just bought the boat and brought it up from Shasta area. Interior had just been re-done and looked sharp. However, try as he might, he couldnt get it to run. It would idle just fine, but would choke and cough at anything past idle, spew black smoke, and generally make for a poor outing, if you wanted to do anything more than idle around.

He spent $600 on a new Holly carb, didnt fix the problem. I got it, without really looking at it to determine the problem. Took it out to a local lake, and determined that it definitely had a problem somewhere..... :smt009

Took it home, spent some time reading, reading reading. Checking other's posts and problems.

Long story short....... found the problem....... someone had changed the old-style points, and had neglected to put in the spring-clip that comes with them, so at anything past idle, the points would "float", thusly causing the poor running condition.

$3 worth of parts, and she runs like a champ!

Good deal! Really sweet looking boat. It's hard to believe it's a '76...

Re: Newby with pics, can I come in? 1976 SRV 220 Overnighter

I am also a new member to this forum. I just bought a 1976 SRV 220 Overnighter as well. Your boat is beautiful!! I will be posting some pics of my new toy really soon...it is banana yellow on the bottom half and the white/cream on top. I am discovering that this is a hard to find boat when it comes to information on what goes where. Do you have a couple more pics you would be willing to post on how the bimini top goes together? I hope to have my pics up by Wed the 25th. Great to see someone else with this same boat. My boat is a bit more of a project but should be a lot of fun. Good luck with great fun with your boat:)

Great looking boat! Make sure to check out the Classic Sea Ray section.
