This is a great site!

I recently purchased a 1995 Sea Ray 175 and I am having issues with the trim. My trim guage does not work nor does the trim up function on my throttle. The trim down function does work on the throttle. The only way I can get my trim up right now is by using the "trailer up" function. When I try to use the trim up function on the throttle, I get a click and no movement. Does anyone know what may be going on?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to CSR! You have come to the right place. And for some reason, there seems to be a lot of 175 owners pouring it. :smt038

I can answer your question because I too have the exact same boat and had the exact same problem. Identically. Would go down fine, but it was random when it would come up. I bought it that way. After having it out in the water twice, I was worried enough that I wouldn't be able to get it back up (and hence not on the trailer to get it home) to make it my #1 priority.

It turns out it was the -up- trim soloenoid that is located on the trim pump. There are two (one for up, one for down). The Mercruiser manual I had told me how to jumper the solenoids to test them. When tried, it would click, click, click, and then engage randomly.

I think it was a $15-20 part and less than an hour to fix. Undo a couple of wires, undo a couple of bolts and its off.

Concerning your trim gauge, I'm not sure about that. My trim guage would work. But if it still doesn't work after the solenoid replacement, Faria offers a lifetime warranty on those guages. For a small flat fee, they will repair it.

Good luck!

Once you get the trim working, if the gauge doesn't work, it's 99% surely the trim sender. On the starboard side of th drive is the sender, on the port side looking the same, is the trim limit. It's common to stop working.

You might try taking the cover off and cleaning the contact surface. I did and it only acted weird in different ways, never worked right again, and now is dead. I just got a new trim sender kit (only way to get them). You have to pull the drive to install the new sender correctly It's the wire that has to be run.

I'll be splicing the wire on the outside on mine and sealing it up with a shrink seal.

The kit retails for about $95 I think.

Sounds like you already got your solutions so I just say, Welcome Aboard  . Post some pics of your boat in the virtual marina :smt024 .
