family man here looking for a good weekend boat for the DW and kids (6, 4, 2). We have found an 04 185 sport. It has the 4.3 Chevy I/O motor. The person selling it wants $9,000. Most pics I have seen for this same boat have two captain chairs (if that is the correct term?) and bench seat. This particular one has the typical "older/traditional" seating where there are seats behind the driver and passenger. Not sure if this makes it less valuable or more. Is $9k to much in today's market? Could I get my money back if we didn't like it? thanks in advance.

I have that exact boat but a 2005. How many hours are on it? Is it carb or Fuel Injected? Do they have any maintance records? The 4.3 is a tough little motor with more then enough power for this boat. Its a great family boat, it can pull a few tubes but still be trailerd anywhere. It fits the whole family no problem. I have the sun pad interior which I like alot better then the standard layout. I am not sure about the price but it seems decent if the boat is in good shape. Good luck..

Price sounds extremely good. You shouldn't have any problems selling it next year, or even a couple of years later for what you paid (or will pay). Obviously I can only comment in regards to my area. The newer ones are going to be about $2,500 more expensive than last year's - just because of the catalytic converters that are being mandated.

The V-6 will be more than adequate. The body style/hull of the 185 changed in 2005 and the captain's chairs w/rear bench and sunpad became the only seating plan offered. Wreckless must have gotten one of the last "older styled" 185's.

EDIT: I misread your initial post, I changed what I said about the pricing.

I really enjoyed my 185, ran it for 10 yrs, and it never failed me! It was fast with the 4.3, and light enough to trailer it easily (I had to keep checking to make sure it was still behind my truck regularly)

I appreciate everyone's response. Turns out the boat had been damaged. The roof of the dry dock it was stored in collapsed during a storm and damaged the boat. The guy rhino lined the top surfaces. There is no glass in the windshield and some other minor damage to the trailer. Now I know why it was "to good to be true". Hopefully down the road I'll find another SeaRay maybe a little bigger :smt001

oh ya it wasn't fuel injected, didn't have any covers and he supposedly bought it for $7500.

Wow! In that case, I'm surprised the guy is even asking $9K. Guess he's hoping for someone to buy it sight unseen.

Rhino-Lined the top:smt101?

Good luck with your search.:smt001
