Newbie bilge question

I am restoring a 1987 23 Weekender and am trying to understand if the main cabin is connected to the engine compartment? I have a puddle of rain water just forward of the compainway stairs and figure it should drain aft into the engine compartment so it can get to the bilge pump, but I can see no pathway for it.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should have a separate step down pump. (a second smaller bilge pump basically) My 260 had a second switch on the dash.
