Went to the show today, not anything like it has been in the past. We walked in to the Javit's center lobby and had I not known the show was going on you would think the place was closed!! Many empty booths in the "market" area. There were many boat companies that didn't bring as many boats as they usually do.

The salesman at most of the boats looked bored!

I wonder if they will cancel the Miami show? It is probably to late...

I was there today also, going back on Wed to meet a few people. Pretty sad turnout but considering they've placed it before Xmas, and bonus time -- although those are slim this year too -- not sure what they expected. I'll get a chance to wander through on the weekend too while she's shopping. Better than being in the rain...

Seven hours of boat show today. Got to see everything with no waiting anywhere! The venders looked bored out of ther minds. With soo few people, if they have this show next year I will be surprised.
I had a great time!!!! Still love the 48da, I'm glad they havent changed it. Those Azimuts 43s sure were pretty too.....
Enjoy,
Mark.

Went back yesterday and due to a continuted lack of attendance was easily able to see it all in under 3 hours and be on time at 5 for dinner at the Palm. I agree with the above - the Azimuts were phenomenal and to me those were the only guys there interested in selling a boat because they engaged you. Any of them could be had for about $700k. Both Meridian and Carver have the prettier female models hired so they got good turnout - the big Carver is awesome but I just don't see one of those being picked up even with the $500k discount. Meridian has the best display because you can access all the boats from one platform. The Sea Ray displays were well attended and I looked at all the boats - but was not approached once by someone wanting to deliver a boat - and I spent some time there. They ( Sea Ray ) sure have made the interiors nice and got their electronics together over the last 20 years. The Meridan guy asked "what kind of boat do you have?" to which I replied "46 sea ray" and he said "great, you're my best next customer." The groups there doing financing looked really bored and most were already into the beers by 3 p.m.

I am going to buy one of the Viking RescYou self inflating liferafts on Sat though. The show pricing is real good and she thinks we need one. Also real good prices on the new EPIRBS. You can tell who's a boat owner and who's a browser by the idiots that climb on and off the new boats with their dirty, dark heeled shoes on despite the "please remove your shoes" signs. I had a good time meeting a few other boat owners though and one guy that keeps his boat 3 docks from mine.

Would be nice to have an extra $7-$800k lying around - could have made it a helluva day.

I was there on Friday and the show should have been called "Mark and his friends show" because that's all that was there. I would be surprised if there were more than one hundred people (attendees) there!
We enjoyed no crowds and no time pressure at any one booth. I spent alot of time at the Sea Ray booth. The marketing guy for Sea Ray and I spoke for a while. I got my free hat too. He was really surprised (disappointed) that the local Sea Ray dealer charged us $50 bucks for the local Aquapolooza. He was going to look into that as he thought it defeated the purpose of the party.

I really like the 33 and 43. The marketing guy said that I could trade in my 27 and own the 33 "today" but he forgot I had to leave a BIG check and make payments for the rest of my life!

I talked to many dealers and in my opinion they were down playing how slow the show was. They agreed it was slow, but not dead. Regulator sold 4 boats, but thought a good year should have been 8. Sea Ray had framed pictures of everyone who bought a boat at the show - maybe 15 or so. (I did not hear the bell ring on Friday). We had a great time as we went to "Lil Italy" for dinner and drinks afterward.

That's funny
(but true) :smt089

did you get to see twiggy the waterskiing squirrel?

A boat salesman I knew would say, "Don't worry about the price. It's just payments."

Not this trip - but I have seen it before - actually - I forgot the "Diva whoever" was there at 6 - just when we left. We had fun with the model at the Marquis booth...... Also loved the girl giving away a chance for a free vacation.... (Anastasa i think)
The Sea Ray salesmen we not that friendly - the marking guy was very personable.

Frank - I love the signs "only 800/monthly"..... no price, only payments :)

I was at the NY boat show on Tuesday afternoon, it was very depessing. The salesmen were pooled together waitng for a customer and Searay had much more space to spread out due to companies not showing up. Can't wait for next year! Maybe we can see a more normal show and economy.

Next year will be worse - sorry, just a prediction (educated). The following year will ROCK!

Well, we went to the NY boat show yesterday. Given the monsoon on Long Island I was surprised there were more people there than I expected. Having said that attendance was no where near what it normally would be on a Sunday. I was talking to my SS3 Marine Max salesman and he says they're unertain which is the primary culprit for poor attendance this year....the economy, holding the show right before Christmas as opposed to after or the bad weather. I would tend to believe they all contributed and in that order. He did say they expected to sell 40 boats and as of yesterday they had sold 35. I couldn't help but going, we were looking for a new dinghy (no deals) and wanted to get a price on a new 48DA (better price than last year but no fire sale). I didn't bother to ask for a trade in number on mine. We also got to see the new 43DA up close and we were NOT impressed....the Master S/R felt smaller than the one on our 40DA....and the 43 was significantly more than the 48. I agree with Hampton...by the looks of things 2009 won't be any better than 2008, at least where new boats are concerned.

figure if they sell 35 boats, and 25% of the deals fall through during normal times, how bad will it be this year? Hope those people get financing because banks aint lending money for boats to just anyone anymore
