I had a question - I don't need new seats - but a dock neighbor with a 1998 - 41' Maxum just ordered all new vinyl covers for his seats from the vendor that originally made the seats. My neighbor just ordered new vinyl covers for a competition ski boat. I have never heard anyone mention on the forum a source for new vinyl covers for seats for Sea Ray. You have to have an upholstery person install them with new foam with the Maxum vinyl. Curious if there was one out there selling new covers for Sea Ray seats.

Morbern has been the supplier of the vinyl for Sea Ray for a number of years. But, all the upholstery work has traditionally been done in-house at Sea Ray. I have never, to the best of my knowledge, heard of any aftermarket company that makes them "pre-fit".

Yes, but only for a certain number of years. After "x" number of years they will no longer be available.

Oddly enough, it seems that Sea Ray has very little replacement part support for models once they change design. It's a shame because there are a lot of older Sea Rays out there and I imagine there might be a decent market for replacement parts. The average life span of these boats is probably much longer than the old wooden pleasure boats. Many might decide to just restore the older ones.
I have a classic muscle car that I can buy almost anything for from the aftermarket world. That is the case with many classics cars with the exception of some very low production vehicles.
I wonder if it would pay for some enterprising individual to produce reproduction items like seat covers, interior items, and other trim pieces for the older Sea Rays.

Repro. parts I've found can be a hit/miss. There are two interior manufacturers, however, in the US that produce excellent product for older cars, Legendary & PUI. I've used them many times for door panels, seat covers, head liners etc.. I wonder would they listen if the interest group was large enough?

You can usually count on about 5 years - after that it's hit or miss. Rarely will something still be available after 10 years. Considering how often SR changes their designs to keep things fresh, that probably has something to do with why it becomes unavailable. Although, assuming the same vinyl would still be available (and knowing that Sea Ray designed the pieces to begin with), I'm not sure why they can't keep the patterns on file and recut new skins down the road. However, it usually ends up being less expensive to have a good, local upholster make the skins for you.

I think the reason you don't find a company offering repro items is simply due to volume. Boat sales are horrifically dwarfed by auto sales. There's just not a lot of the "same year, make and model" out there... And then what percentage of those will want new skins? It'd be great if someone offered this service, but I don't think they'd be in business long.

...And not buy a new boat that Sea Ray is in the business of manufacturing and selling?

On the bright side I had some cushions redone for my 85 Monaco and it is a challenge to tell the original from the new as they did such a fantastic matching job on both material and duplicating the unique styling. The original material would not match a 10 year old or older due to fade and dye lot differences. MM

Formula boats does a great job with this as we replaced the rear seat skin on his 02 Fastech it took about 3 weeks perfect fit and match. I installed it myself
