New Vehicle Suggestions?

Dave,
Excellent info. Thanks!! A few guys here recommended that I contact their local guys before I purchase as I may get a significantly better deal out of state. Seems like a bit of a hassle but if it means $11k off the sticker I really should give it more thought. Thanks for the post.

I should have mentioned that my post card was specific to the 4X4 XLT Crew Cab. Lightly optioned, these seem to sticker at $39-$41.5K. Still, not a bad deal to get something like this in the $29K range, before any trades, etc. A lot of vehicle for the money.

No Doubt!!

Thanks. Anybody know if Ford is planning any significant body style changes in the next year or 2 on the F150? I've read Lincoln will implement major changes all models by '15, so that's pushing me away from another Navigator. I don't want to buy a '12 then a whole new radical-looking vehicle comes out a year or two later. I would also rather not buy anything in its first production year. If the F150 is safe for a few more years, I'll probably take that road once the weather breaks. I *think* I'm settling in on a F150 platinum 4x4. Not sure yet on the ecoboost vs. 6.2...although leaning towards the big motor.

Don't know about any body changes for '13 and beyond so I can't help you there.

I would definitely take long drives in both the EB and 6.2 before deciding. I love my 6.2 and the sound of it, but I'd be very open to an EB as well. From 0-60 and 1/4 mile times they're neck and neck. If I were towing something heavy frequently I'd opt for the 6.2 otherwise the EB would get the nod for it's fuel efficiency when not being pushed.

Just a word on the Eco-boost. My saleman friend told me that although they drive real nice he would be hesitant to buy one in an '11 because it's a first year production. I imagine it may take a couple of years to see where the problems, if any, develop. That was just his advice. I personally am not too fond of a twin turbo gas engine. As I stated previously I had a single turbo in a Saab that went bad. I had it replaced and the car was never the same. Just my personal experience. I would lean toward a V-8 myself. The mileage difference was minimal.

Agreed on the comments about the Eco Boost. A recent Motor Trend article - I think it was their Truck-of-the-Year - indicated that they liked the Eco Boost for performance, but real world fuel economy with the 5.0 V-8 was about the same. I think the Eco Boost is about a $900.00 upgrade. It is only a 3.5 ltr. displacement - and it is tow rated to 11,300. Truly amazing. I would fear it might blow up, that is a heck of a load for that size.

Regarding the comments on the discount: I was pitched at $11,500 off of 4x4 XLT Crew Cab, it is for the 2012 model. Our economy is pretty solid here, and only Chrysler is still pitching 2011 models - 300 sedan and Ram pick-up.

Speaking of new vehicles....... I gave the Admiral this one today for her birthday:

My office took delivery of a 2011 F250 4x4 with the 6.2 back in July. Personally, I do not like it. There is some delay when you hit the gas hard and fuel ecomony is at 12.

I was in the same spot and was going with the platinum until I looked at the FX4 with the same options at $8k less. You can get every option except for AC seats- I hadn't known there was such a thing. Also you cannot get a locking rear differential in the platinum but you can in the FX4. An easy choice for me and sticker is 8k less! I have had my 2011 crew for a year now and love it, mileage is 15 but I do more around town than hwy driving. I have seen 17/18 on long highway rides. I have the 5.0 with a 6 speed auto. It's track test was .4 second less than the 6.2 0-60 but identical quarter mile time with a +1 mph trap speed if that means anything to you. I chose the 5.0 because of the history over lack of from Eco the 6.2 is just bulk I do not need.

Funny, the lack of AC seats in the FX4 and the fact that it only had black as a color choice was the singular reason I didn't do it. Black leather seats and and a suit just don't work for me in Texas. I believe the 2012 FX2/4 now offer A/C seats.

I just saw an ad on TV to lease a 2012 Escape for $189.00 a month with leather interior. I wondered why it was so cheap and then I looked at the website. They are doing a radical body change next year in lines with the Explorer transformation this year. They must want to move the older body styles now before they are outdated. I'm still waiting for these $11k price drops on the F-150's that people have touted here but all I'm hearing are chirping crickets!! I have cooled on the search a little because I was finding it too confusing although I am still in need of a new vehicle. I don't enjoy car shopping because I plan on keeping this thing a while and don't want buyers remorse later.

In TX I guess I can understand that, here in the NE Black was my preference and I certainly don't have use for AC seats, although my new car has them. A friend has a Red one but the interior is dark- mine is black with a dark gray leather, might as well be black but I have no issue in the summer. Goes to show you, everyone's wants and needs are different.

I have it listed for 27k. The car is awsome but not many people with cash to buy cars.

Test drove a 2012 F150 Platinum with the ecoboost engine this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised. The twin- turbos had very little lag. I hammered it from a dead stop as well as at 60 and it had pretty good acceleration. Since the largest load I'll ever being towing with it is a jet ski or the novurania, I've decided to give it a shot. We are pretty close on difference if I decide to trade but I've got someone interested in buying my Navigator so we'll see how that plays out first. They've found a couple I like via dealer locator so it looks like I'll have a new truck soon. We've decided to change things up a bit and not go black, charcoal or white, rather golden-bronze. It looks pretty sweet in person. Here are some "sister-ship" pics if the links works.
