Hello to everyone, we have taken delivery of our new (used) Sea Ray 390 & have got most everything working again, but a couple of questions I could use help with.

First, the windsheild washer soloniod is leaking water causing short water pump cycles (hard to sleep through) & I thought I would just plug the water ports off till I got around to fixing the problem, however a short time into the cap off water started coming in through the lights in the galley & then the speakers. Surprise, don't do that. I would like to know if anyone can guide me to the soloniod?

Second, as creative as I am I cannot figgure how to get the salon a/c filter out for cleaning. Any help?

Many thanks for any help & tips

Mike

The filter is a reach. I have long arms but still had to use a wooden spoon ( do not tell my wife) to push it up out of the holder.

Ours has a grate in front of it that I can't find a release of any kind for. I have been up close & personal with it & still no luck.

The windshield washer, if similar to my 03 420DA, is a 12v brass valve that is mounted under the cockpit sink. My boat's valve would not close all the way, which resulted in a constant drip from both windshield washers. I think the valve was about $100 or so from the Sea Ray dealer's parts counter, and is about a thirty minute job to replace the failed valve with the new one. Can't help you with the AC filter--the filters on the 420DA are fairly easy to access and remove for cleaning.

Thanks Skip, I will look under the sink, just odd to have water out of the ceiling unless the tee is mounted up there. If I can find the soloniod, I can just block water supply till I get the new valve.

Oh I struggled with that as well. You will see two small white tabs pull them up then slightly pry the bottom of the black grate up from the bottom of the frame. It is a lot easier than it looks.

Thank You, saw the white tabs but tried to slide them, not push them in. I am pretty sure I would have just destroyed the grate & figgured it out on the replacemant.

Thanks to everyone for their help. We have been a member of another manufactures owners forum for many years, but this is our first Ray, extremely well built & well thought out. Now if we could get 5 miles to the gallon......

A bad solenoid could cause the main FW pump to cycle, but I don't see how a bad solenoid would cause water to leak into the cabin. A leaky solenoid would have water dribbling from the washer head onto the windshiled. To me, it sounds like you may have both a bad solenoid and a leaky hose leading from the solenoid to the washer head on the wiper arm.

Most likely due to the fact that the windshield washer tubing used is not designed for high pressure over a period of time. Capping it off probably exceeds the design pressure of the tubing and the fittings. just an observation from restoring cars.

or....if the boat every spent a winter in the 'north' and the washer system wasn't winterized correctly. Either way, I'd say the OP has two problems now....a bad solenoid and a cracked/leaking hose routed somewhere in the head liner.

I agree, I want to cut off water supply to the solonoid till I get time to replace the hose in the headliner, it only leaked when I capped it off, would have been better leaving it open to leak on the windsheild. Live & learn!

Well after hours of searching, no luck. searched under the galley sink & behind the panel, cockpit sink, pulled microwave & searched with lights & mirrors behind panels, drawers, tv, etc.

Any other ideas would be gratefully appreciated, thanks for the previous ideas.

You can go on the Sea Ray site and down load a parts manual. You won't see a 2004 390 manual available for down load so I asked Sea Ray about getting it. They said to just down load a 2005 390 parts manual since all manulas are not on the site. If you look at page # 104 it shows the WS wiper water line connected off of the cockpit sink water line. It also shows a brass valve (part #9) at this connection which I assume is the solenoid. You might want to send Sea Ray an email about your question if you still can't find it. They usually respond in a few days.

Thanks for the advice, got the parts breakdown & there it is. So now off to the boat this weekend & with the pump shut off I will have my wife push the button & follow the sounds, I was in the right church, wrong pew. That's why I could't hear it down stairs. I had looked around the cockpit sink & above the port fuel tank, but could not see it. I will pull the ice maker out & I bet it's there.

Thanks again to all.

Thanks to everyone for their help, found the thing behind the cockpit ice maker & blocked off the supply line, hurray for our side, no more pulsing & wet canvas cover.

Now on to project number 33 of the list.

Thanks again!

Mike
