possibly buying a 04 - 220SD and looking for a trailer. a new aluminum trailer is $3563, dual axle, brakes etc.

any thoughts on aluminum vs galvanized? I'm going to be freshwater only.

I just bought a 2005 aluminum I-beam. And after towing with galvanized...boy what a difference. The aluminum does flex for a better tow. You'll be fine with the aluminum in fresh water. I wouldn't worry about corrosion. Just cover or store indoors when not in use if possible.

Aluminum is great... sounds like a good price also.

Mine was aluminum and worked great.

My last two trailers have both been aluminum with torsion axles. That setup keeps maintenance to a minimum. No exposed springs to rust or maintain (the torsions have have rubber inserts for springs) and the aluminum doesn't have paint to peel or chip. Aluminum trailers do flex but if you run a turnbuckle from your bow eye DOWN to the trailer while towing you'll eliminate the flexing. Both of my trailers have an eye on the trailer to hook the turnbuckle to.

I lived in Austin for 10 years and boated at Lake Travis. While there I had a company 'Magnum Trailers' http://www.magnumtrailers.com/ in Austin make me a custom trailer for my 180. I wanted to be able to store the boat in my garage which was not deep enough. They made a trailer for me with a removable tongue. It worked great. It was a HOT looking trailer too custom chrome wheels, painted metal and pinstriped. Just a side note the guy that owns Magnum is a retired engineer, he worked for NASA building that mobile tracked platform that moved the shuttle around.

yeah, I've called Magnum, I live about 5 miles from their store. A painted tandem runs $4700 vs a McClain aluminum for $3500. I'd rather put the difference in the boat..

I've got 7 year old painted trailer that looks brand new. If aluminum is cheaper, it makes sense to go that route, but it's not really necessary in Austin for corrosion protection.

Magnum makes good stuff, but dang, they are expensive. I added some custom Sea Ray decals, pin stripes, and chrome wheels to my stock ShoreLand'r and it looks pretty sweet.
