2-165hp with Pre-Alpha Stern Drives
I can now relate to many of you. Just got my newbie toy, a 1974 Sea Ray 240 Flybridge. Free!! It has 2-165 hp mercruisers with Pre-Alpha stern drives. Also came with Humminbird LCR 8000 and VHF radio, along with a Loran SeaRanger ALN 200 (which I have to find out if it is still usable). Pictures show current state. I will try to get restoration pics as I am able.

Looking forward to the progress pictures.

Once you get a good look at all the systems what's your budget going to be to get it sea worthy?

I wonder if you could covert that to twin outboards. That would be cool.

I'd be taking a good close look at structural issues before I spent anything. Might be a good prospect, or could be a can of worms. Best of luck

Don't really have a budget yet. One engine has already been rebuilt, other engine has elbow off and looks like flapper is missing. Will probably upgrade to electronic ignition. Will just spend enough to get them and sterb drives running before I sink too much into the rest of it.

Not right now. The experience I've had with outboards and reliability has not left me real confident of using them.

Structure seems very sound. Hull is solid, That's what I like about some of the older boats, They hand laid most of the glass and were proud of the product they produced, not "will it make it just past the warranty period" like now-a-days.

I thought I remember seeing a post somewhere on the form about somebody that did that very thing.
Yeah, there was someone who customized their's and turned out pretty nice. Hope to get mine useable. Think the grandkids will enjoy it.

Looks like a fun old boat. I'll save you some troubleshooting time - the Loran system doesn't work anymore.
