Hi my name is Lou and I just found a love in boating after a life time of curiosity so I wanted to say hello and let you all know who the guy is with all the questions in the near future... lol.
I bought my boat back in June and have enjoyed it since. I was your basic muscle car, classic car and motorcycle lover type person but after realizing I wasn't able to finish my car because of family responsibility and spending my free time doing family things and then one day wiping off an inch of dust off my pro-street Harley I decided to clean out the garage and thought about a boat for the whole family to enjoy. Well to put it short I haven't regretted it yet. I have an old boat to many but she is still seems to be a decent boat from what I hear and have experienced so far. I have a 1986 Sea Ray Sundancer 270. She is pretty clean but I plan on doing some upgrades and TLC on her while learning my way around because she was sitting for a year before I bought her but she is sea worthy and looking better every day with a little work here and there. Well I do not want to bore you all with me so let me just say hi and I look forward to being on this site and meeting you all. Here are some pics of my boat

~Cheers, Lou

Welcome aboard, boating is just simply, The Best!

I have found the guys on this site very helpful probably the best source of info I have found.

Enjoy.

Welcome Lou, I welcomed you on the other site and told you about this one. Check the signature, the name is different there. Glad to see you made it over here, there is a wealth of knowledge here on Sea Ray boats. You will get a lot of good info here specific to Sea Ray as well as other parts of the boat like engines and drives. Again welcome to Club SeaRay

Very nice boat and welcome to the Club! So did you really sell your motorcycle and/or muscle cars to buy the boat? I haven't paid much attention to my muscle car ('66 Chevelle SS) nor HD motorcycle in awhile, but I just can't part with them yet, thinking I'll never be able to buy another someday!

Hi everyone and thanks and hi again Midway. I wanted to put you down as the person that referred me but I realized your name was different here when I tried to put your user name from the other site hoping they were the same. If I can change it let me know and I will be happy to do so. Hey Gunn actually my first car was a 66 Chevelle and a personal favorite but the one I sold was an really rare 1970 Pontiac Ram Air 400 Formula ordered like an old school factory Drag Pack like you seen with the full chassis SD cars back in the mid 60's. It had the 400 Ram Air 3 with a Muncie M-21 4-speed and a 12 bolt 3:73 rear with all beauty and performance options and then kept light with no luxury options what so ever, not even rear defrost. High 12 second factory car with 44k in mileage and only one I ever was able to locate in survival that was ordered like mine. But it sat since 1982 in a garage and it needed a full restoration. I mean this was a very big dollar car restored, but doing the work myself I figured it would be around 30k to do and a lot of time I just could not commit. I realized after looking at my Harley covered in an inch of dust which was a shame because it was a pro-street and took three years to build that my life was just shooting by and my kids were getting older so I sold both and decided to go for a boat. I plan on another car but I am no collector so I want something less rare I can play with and enjoy and as for my Harley, well blame getting older because I just did not enjoy the pro-street ride as much as I use to, (especially on long trips) and find myself yearning for a Road King, old school FLH or even a bagger. But with the kids still young (2,6, and 9) I do not plan on getting one just yet. So I play with the boat for fun when time given, and enjoy it in spare time with family and friends.

I have the same name on every site but that one, it would not let me use midway there.

I sold my HD recently and it stung. Had to. Put a lot of my soul into building her and put about 50K miles on it. Miss it already.

Lou!

Welcome to CSR and congratulations on getting the best first boat on earth! I know. Our first boat was the exact same - 1986 270DA. We loved that boat and had a lot of great experiences on her. Best wishes to you and your family for a great boating experience.

Jack

My apologies Jack, I do not know how I missed your welcome post. Nice to hear I am not alone in experiencing this model as a first boat. I am loving it but some seem like it's a bad idea starting out on this model. I am not sure why but so far so great, so no regrets as of yet... lol. Love the way you did your bike as well.... I just love a traditional style yet totally all personal custom. It's how mine was too. Just too many OCC and aftermarket stretched frame choppers now a days. So when I see one like yours I can really appreciate the effort done on the bike. I know mine was very versatile from a bar hopper to long trips and she was no joke in performance either. I had ported polished aftermarket heads with over sized custom valves, 600 lift / 242 duration cams, 10:1 compression Wiseco pistons, stroked lower end, accel dual ignition, Andrews gears in a 5-speed trans with a comp clutch, 4-over sprocket setup with a nickel o-ring chain conversion from belt, cut, stretched and widened chrome swing arm. In looks I had all custom tins except for the oil reservoir and all with custom paint, Chromed and diamond chip Fatboy rims, custom fabricated chrome wide Glide , Chubby drag bars, shotgun exhaust, etc. What a lot of people do not realize either is I custom built mine going back in 95 so a lot of stuff wasn't available out of a magazine so I had a lot of fabrication work. Even my brakes were on custom slotted and reversed drilled rotors and JB calibers with both chrome reservoirs from Arlen Ness and every line was steel braided. I had help from friends like Indian Larry, his mechanic Big Bill, Steg and Dilligaf Cycles. I was basically dealing with a lot in my life then and did the bike on a whim to keep sanity. Anyway I owned her for 16 yrs so it was time. Here was the kicker, I decided to do all this work to a Sporty... lol. I originally built her as a Bobber style drag bike and from there went nuts, hence the three year build. She would eat Japanese bikes in the 1/4 leaving them in a state of shock. Right up to Hyabusas until I added all the weight but even then a GSXR 750 to 1000 was nothing to fear, well in the 1/4 mile anyway.

Welcome aboard

Wow, great stories and great bikes. You guys are much braver than I. Even though the extra cash would be great right now, I just can't part with 'em...yet... :smt089

Welcome!! Great year boat!! I also sold a custom Harley for my boat. I had 4 total, 3 at one time and decided to start thinning the heard. Had it down to one, which was a totally custom 2002 Softail Deuce. That is where my boat name comes from. First boat was Lucky's. Second boat and sold my Deuce to get it...Luckys Deuce! :) It stings a little to let go, but at this point theres no way I'd turn back!!

Wow Lou! Incredible Sporty. I'm a rank amateur compared to what you did.

Pay no attention to the nay sayers on the 270. She handles well, has room for the kids, stable - good boat. I'd love to find out what happened to mine so if you see other '86 270's around, let me know.
