Hey all, I just signed up today and am loving the great info in all the forums. I wish I had seen the club earlier, I just did a refit on my '85 270 a month ago. That would have been a big help, especially on the wood floor and headliner in the cabin! Looking foreword to chatting about boats, since it is too cold here in Michigan to cruise!

Welcome...okay, lets get it out of the way...can you explain the name ?

Yea, about the name. My wife and I are 27 years old and all our friends are having kids. Same old story, they have kids, stop hanging out, and cant come on the boat. Every time we take a trip it is like a little dose of "lets wait another year to have kids of our own". So, the boat is birth control. It is actually bErth control, but I typed it wrong and so that's what it is.

Thanks, the picture is actually from Key Largo, I was picking up my wife from the dock, it is only a couple weeks old! I usually boat around Holland area, but we love to see and explore the sights, so we go all over. Most of the time we trailer the boat to a port and then cruise. Last year we hit Torch lake, Chain of lakes, grand traverse bay, benton harbor, and Milwaukee! that was all on our 230 weekender though, just got this boat in November. Last year was more traveling than normal for us, but being able to trailer it makes it a lot cheaper to cruise so we can do it more!

Welcome to the club, you have found a great place to meet great people.....again welcome to the board.

Welcome to a great club.

Yes nice boat.
Welcome here.

I like it when people introduce themselves like this...

Some just post a question on there first post.

Peter.

Thanks for the compliment on the boat, it's really appreciated! My wife and I have put a lot of work into it over the last two months. We don't have a lot of cash, but love boating so I bought it for 6,000 at a repo auction in okay shape but with rebuilt motors and out drives. Then the tedious stuff:

We buffed the hull, stripped the old stripes (burgundy) and put on the black ones, stripped the burgundy anti-fouling and painted black, made a new bow pulpit, new launcher & anchor, re-sealed the hatches, re-finished the teak, new vinyl in the cockpit, ripped out the bench and put in two buckets, cleaned out a trash can full of old wires (old sounders, gps, ect.), made an alternator bracket (mercruiser 170s), water pump, cabin headliner, floor, table, some upholstery, took out a little wall (by the mid berth/cabin entry), and mounted a lcd tv on the wall.

At least that's the big stuff! It took a lot of time, but now we can cruise with you rich guys - its not about the boat anyways, its about fun on the water, right!

Eric, Great looking boat and "Berth Control"....Great name! E-mail Jim or Wesley and I'm sure he can fix your signature.

Thanks! about the "rich" - it's all perspective right!?! I guess it's at the forefront of my mind because a year ago I would have called anyone crazy that said I would be cruising on my own boat - and it had a !!BATHROOM!! for the wife by 2009.

Sounds like you know your boat inside and out. Making your own alternator bracket....love it! Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the club. Not been here to long myself. Your going to like it here. Great site. Love the boat, we could be twins.

stripped the old stripes...and put on the black ones...black antifouling

Color scheme rehab, in my opinion, can take 15 years off a boat's visual age.

About the right wingers - I don't get it? because of the pre-clinton era boats? Mine is pre-bush too.

because of the pre-clinton era boats?

Nah. It just seems that boaters are conservatives in general. At least from what I've seen on this board when the occasional political discussion comes up.
