I just bought my first boat, a Sea Ray 175 Sport with 30 hours. I have boated with friends, but ownership seems a tad daunting. I joined this site to learn as much as I can and appreciated the experience of you all.

My first concern is running in saltwater. I have the boat at a marina, so they should be flushing my motor each time I bring her home.

Is there anything, in particular, I should know about the 3.0 Mercruiser?

Welcome aboard. You may want to update your signature with your boat and location info.

IMHO - Yes you should have the engine flushed if you want it to last longer. You also need to a thorough wash down of the whole boat to get the salt off of it it. You will be amazed where you get salt on the boat.

You bet. Wash and flush after every salt water run. This is preventative maintenance you'll appreciate doing since as you know, salt is very corrosive and costly.
