Re: NEW THREAD Employed by Sea Ray

As I'm not familiar with this model, doesn't mean I cannot help. I would need some rather helpful info (ie. pics of specifics) as I don't have that kind of info from the "lifers" or prints since we never built that model (of my knowledge within SR). I can give you a little understanding sooner of our smallest well running boat as it has the sofa (mid-berth) on the port side which would be the 09' 280 but I'll need a little further info to help you on your quest.

The more specific the pics the better I can help you. (ie. pics of thru-bolts/lag , pic of said c-pit cushion, pic of interior where the cushion/interior/future-TV will mount.) Every boat is diff. for spec. models. I'll do the best with what is provided.

HEY JohnEGrahm, just waiting for a response from you, if you need to PM me that is alright, I can tell you, there is extesive work for you if your boat has the same outfit interior that the 280 holds... I can walk you thru it , if you are willing?

    Welcome Chelepop!
I have an '08 310DA. Just love the boat except for one flaw which I hope SR finds a fix for. The fuel fills are almost midship and there is no duplication which would allow port and starboard tanks to be filled from the same side (as in the 330, 340 and 350). Thus you have to drag the fuel hose through the cockpit and reach around the arch to fill the tank away from the fuel dock. The older models had stern fills whch could be easily reached from the swim platform.
Again thanks to SR for building a great boat!

Hey Stash, Ill check on if the 09' models if the 310 fuel system was changed and implemented. This was a poor design, obviously. But this is also the first (and im sure many) complaint if heard of either on this site or on the floor. Hang tight!

ok Chelepop , heres the 1st of many I may have . I have a 280DA , 2004 , 496 eng., B3 , dual propset , smartcraft ( basic version ) . A few seconds after I get on plane and trim out , the whistle blows and i have " trim fault " in the smartcraft LCD , analog gage goes to zero . Comes back on intermitently . When I layed the boat up for the winter , it seems the ist detent on the Throttle thumb switch doesnt work till i push it into trailer mode , then of course , the outdrive comes up . This points to the limit sw . It only comes in a kit that has both limit & sensor sw's in it . Anything else I might look at b 4 i change them two ?
I agree Searay might be messin up by discontinuing the 280 . Out of all the boats around me when in a transient dock , mine got the most attention . Bet I could've sold it 4 or 5 times last summer . ( Michigan - Lake St. Clair )
    Thanks.

I see your note on the 40DA. I'm anxious to see the new model, hopefully its got the lines of the 43 and 540 and is a true coupe with Zeus. I've been waiting to go to the yacht expo, if they have it again and the new 40 is there, this may be the year.

The only info I could find is that, the 310 was designed exactly as what you own. They made the changes with the duel fuel in the bigger boats. I don't believe you can modify this because of the goosenecks on the gas tanks (to be safe anyway). So there will be no changes or options added to the 310DA in your situation that we are aware of thus far.

    Chelepop,
Sorry to hear there is no fix. I find it hard to believe that SR will let this design flaw persist for too long. Is there someone at SR who might be charged with updating the 310DA that I could correspond with? I would like to stay in touch in case a solution is implemented.
    Thanks for your help.

Stash, there probably is someone at the Merritt Island location since that is now our PD&E facility. The Name? I haven't a clue. Don't even know where to start asking even. I apologize.

Your a very knowledgeable and helpful person. What can you say for the construction techniques and practices of older ( 1978) sea rays... I am looking at a 78 260 express cabin cruiser that is reportably in great shape and well maintained...Any pointers?

    Islandboater,

Thank you for the compliment, but I don't have any info on older SR's, the best I can do is ask the old timers here and fingers crossed that they remember that far back. It is most helpful if pics and a specific area is in question though.

I talked to a guy at the Miami Boat Show who has worked for SR for 33 years. I have an 86 300DB. He told me that the older hulls, especially the 80s were great ones. It was before all the "mil specs" when they started to use computers. He called these hulls "ice breakers" He stated they were heavy, but solid.

Stepped on a 43 Sundancer today at a boat show. I am wondering what flooring is being used. It's the dark plank. I can't imagine it's Pergo style engineered wood.

Need help locating where the Aft Cockpit Stereo "Amplifier" is on a 2004 340DA Sundancer. My cockpit stereo isn't working correctly, get a "hum" out of all the speakers. Cabin system working fine. There is a switch in the cabin to select "Cockpit"/"Cabin"...or you can have both on..... Believe it might be the Amp that is bad or connection problem, but I can't find where its located....????

Need help from anyone. Please e-mail reply to:

    Truly appreciate the help

I owned a 1979 26 SR Express purchased new at a winter boat show for $21,000. I ran it for 3400 hours and sold it for $15,000. Those were the days! It was a very good sea boat for its size and would run a rough inlet better than many bigger boats of the day. It was great in just about any following sea. Head seas presented the usual challenges to a small boat, but again, it had a pretty sharp entry and did well for its size. The boat was reasonably well built for its day. However, the stringers were made out of plywood and the tabs did not always connect to the hull. I would say that part of the construction was just plain shoddy. Having said that, it did not seem to cause any problems. Today, the surveyors would go nuts with that detail. The forward hatch leaked badly. We would have to move in the middle of the night during a good rain storm as the water came in right around the seals. Windows were the same way. Other than routine maintenance on the engine and outdrive (including new I/O paint, gimbal bearings, u-joints, seals) the boat ran like a champ. It was available with twin 260 HP Mercs and really flew. Those engines were bullet proof if cruised at 3050 RPMs or less. Crusaders were also available. I remember the sales guy said I could have blue or black engines. I had never heard of Crusader at the time and remained very happy with the Mercs. They were trouble free.

If I remember correctly, one amp should be mounted on your component board in the bilge and one amp in installed under the v-berth bunks.

    Awsome that you're here!
i was interested in installing underwater LED's 2004-340 and was wondering if you can recommend a quality product that is not installed through-hull?
