NEW THREAD Employed by SeaRay

chelepop - the horn subject has been extesively discussed here on CSR....The factory electric horn is wimpy on my 300. Using my horn to signal intentions while underway is not audible to the boat being overtaken or while meeting head on. It is not full of water and is the same volume since the boat was new.

How about a choice of either electric (standard) or an optional stylish highly polished stainless steel twin trumpet air horn on the arch that has the volume of a Peterbuilt?

I have a question concerning our 2005 320 Sundancer. We had to have her pulled to do some repair work, some jerk put a hole in our gelcoat (blue hull.) At any rate seems SR has discontinued the color and Spectrum dropped it as well. So as they sand and buff they are getting white spots, almost looks like metallic flakes.

Our SR dealer said SR had problems with that color the first year (2005) and that maybe SR will honor some type of warranty agreement. We are second owners, does that make us ineligible if SR does make an offer to help?

Of course the other piece to that is, to have a SR floating around with a crappy looking gelcoat!

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Ok...... This is my last post lol I've been trying to get this through sp/ck and post keeps leaving grr..

I'm not sure but I will find out Monday. I have heard diff. scenarios on SR and not first time owners just to make sure customers are happy regardless of how many owners.

This case is diff. cause it wasn't a factory defect. But we have discontinued that blue in 05, aamof we went through I think 4 down the line......... not to mention all that was tried before running it down the line.

Anywho lemme ask a few questions.

Do you know who did it and what has their insur. said? What does your insurance say? Where was the damage? (ie. gunwale port or stb. bow or stern?) Was there a void in the glasswork, how big was the area?

Not that this is gonna make you feel more geddy inside but if the dam. is not a really big spot and hides in water, couldn't they have just patched that spot with the "SR Blue" we are using now? If it is noticeable, you know they will have to sand down your whole boat to glass and then re-gel, which could poss. put your boat outta commission for quite some time if done at dealership? What is the dealership name? If you have no other choice via through me, INSIST your boat go back to the plant on their dime (dealer). Have you personally called the KX plant??? I can provide you with numbers and names, but lem me try to take my stab at things on my end first..... Hang in there Ill know more towards the end of next week kk?

Greetings chelepop!

If the 280 is out in March, what will be replacing one of Sea Ray's most endeared boats?

Funny you should ask that. It was suppose to be the new 290da 06'.. Go figure, as I said before in previous posts, SR wanted to go ahead and phase it out since it has been in production since Phoenix which was way before my time at SR, but hubby who works there with me has been there since 01 and said it came in that year.

All I know is that models usually just stick around for 4-5 years, but not the case with 280da. I still don't get the fact they want to do away with it since it's still such a hot boat, but again I have to say, since the integration of our 290da (that was suppose to take 280's place and has since been retired which was in production just 2.5 years) 290aj. 310. 330. 350 SR has decided since all the popular options of teak flooring in cabin/cockpit upgraded to a STANDARD MAPLE in cabin and opt. teak cockpit, etc. all models as I mentioned above all resemble the 350 but just mini-me's.. And for good reason, HAVE YA SEEN THE NEW 310/330/350<s.w.a.k.> They are GORGEOUS............ Change is good in the boating world..

Maybe SR just wants to see what can compare to the 280da and create a bigger and better version?

If you don't change then everything will stay the same and we have too many talented, creative people at Brunswick to stay in idle. Too many devoted and loyal customers for that matter. I know many SR past, present and future customers always look forward to new models as we all do building them.

The challenge makes it worth the while!!

Lemme take a stab at this.. I *think* the reasoning to axe the spoiler horn (aka arch) is when the boat is underway, you WILL hear it, but it doesn't mean anyone else can, since the water/engines can drown it out before it reaches the bow and for-go any further after into the water.

Another reason is because there is no really good place for a "loaded" boat to support a horn on the spoiler.

This is the first I've heard that from an actual owner. I knew that the horn didn't sound loud from the helm, especially when it was underway (water, moters etc.) but I can tell you that this is a very good idea with the twin trumpet HOWEVER, you know that this in trial stages would be an "option" aka additional costs to the owner until SR figured out that it is out of a 'safety' fashion.

The best I can do right now is pull my resources and go to corporate via my supervisor/manager with concerns. I don't think you will be affected by this since the 300da has been phased out, but since we use the same horn for all our sport cruisers this may mean a change in future models. No promises but I can mention this. Thank you for your input and I can address this to engineering/cost managment.

Hope this makes a way for a portal, I'm open to do the best I can with what I can gather :smt001

Actually I do have a question... maybe it's more of a complaint.

cupholder.jpg

Why is this cupholder here? It seems like it's only use is for me to crack it and replace it for some crazy amount of money every year. It doesn't hold drinks.

Mike,

I don't know exactly starting from what year, but 280DA has improved cup holders. I had the same thing on my 240DA and I'm sure every single boat owner that has it knows that this is useless. I had purchased the holder for newer 280DA and installed it:

I wonder if Searay will figure out that there is a huge void in the customer service department. We could set a record with this thread by hitting 2000 hits in less than 24 hours.

Easy Ole' feller,

Just because you complain to your dealer, or agent, or whomever, DOESN'T MEAN IT GETS TO US.. We receive a weekly agenda about complaints from our Dealers in some cases. And what needs immediate attention. We have in-house audits and OUTSIDE audits............ Out on the floor we do not receive any info on complaints via customers directly because we think our customers are happy and trust that the SR dealers are on top of things, how else are we suppose to know if not from our dealers right?

Believe you/me, YOU are the end result and there is SeaRay.com to voice your opinions. This is something we have been addressing for many years, and I'm positive it will eventually open the lines of communication and come to a fruition, ESPECIALLY in these economic times.. Our belts our tighten and we are willing to do WHAT IT TAKES to make our dealerships and customers happy that's why you own a SR right?

This is my job, this is my life, I LOVE SEARAY, sorry but it is what it is, and with your input maybe we can make a huge change in the lines of communication through our dealers and our facility.

Let me ask you, have you brought your issues to the forefront (ie. internet, in person, dealer)?

How have you vented your problems just not in a forum?

Please give me some insight, i'll be more than happy to help.

Welcome Chelepop.

Do you own a boat ? or you can take whatever boat you want ?

Chelepop,

Thanks for the reply. The repair has been taken care of and I am not inquiring as to SR will pay for the damage. Rather I am inquiring if SR, with their being aware of the gelcoat color problem, has an answer as to how to fix the paint? It seems my dealer, Power Boats Inc, Hot Springs, Arkansas, is having difficulty buffing the old gelcoat.

I am not savvy to gelcoat terminology, so as I was told, each time they have sanded and have begun to buff, so as to blend the repaired area with the rest of the hull, they are running into this speckling problem. I went down to look at it, and it is very evident that as they buff, metallic like speckles appear.

The damaged area is well above water line so the patching and painting with new blue just isn't an option.

I am in no way insinuating that I think SR should pay the repair of the damaged area, rather I am saying it appears the color/gelcoat/or something was not right with the 2005 Blue out of the factory. And if SR was/is aware of this I believe it would be a great gesture of goodwill to offer a fix. I guess I would equate it to a auto manufacturers recall.

Thanks again for any info you can provide me. My email is in my profile if you need to contact me for additional info.

Mike,

I got the bracket from my local MM at Brick NJ, but it had to be ordered.

This thing was bugging me for some time and after I was vieing number of 280s I saw how this part was improved. The only difference is that original installation is done through the cabin. What I mean is that the two threaded legs of the bracket are long and go throught two wholes. I don't know if there's another way to tighten the nuts, but based on the length I would think in the cabin under the liner. Obviously, I wasn't going to drill any holes in the cabin, so I just measured the length I needed and had cut the rest of the threaded legs. The other problem is that the original plastic holder (the base, the current cup holder) is not lining up perfectly with the legs of the new bracket. As you can see on this pic. the way I drilled the holes in the plastic base was what looks like 1/2 of a hole. This had to be done for bothe holes. It was the only way (at least I haven't found better one) to have both the bottom and top holders to line up nicely.

"Why is your girlfriend's butt on the dash?"

I know, it's been a long time since most of you were single.

Oh I see, you added that. Very cool.

Man I gotta agree with you guys regarding that cup holder. Mine was broken when we took delivery of the boat so they fixed it for us and now it is broken again....Im gonna have to look into the model that Boat a Bing has...Thanks for posting the pic

26 year last week, but who is counting:thumbsup:

Side note: I did get to dream as a young man again for a couple seconds when I read the post.:smt043:lol: Thanks Mike.

We can probably make that happen, but it's not just baddaboom , depends on your dash options on what the spoiler gets on top also :) Rewiring will have to happen also.

Chelepop

I would just like to find an arch for my model. I can do any and all of the wiring. If there's one kicking around the Riverview plant that's closing/closed?....I'd like to know.

I appreciate you looking.

chelepop - Thank you for your reply and contributions to the site!

The reason that I asked the question is that I currently have a 2003 280DA. We love the boat but would like a seating configuration like the larger boats (bench helm), greater cruising range, and a little extra room for sleeping would be nice. The 310 / 330 / 350 are nice boats, but cost was a critical factor in the decision process when we purchased our 280, and once again price is of paramount importance when considering our options for our next boat.

310.jpg

As SR must have shut down the 290 line based on sales, I would assume that when the decision was made SR went back to the "drawing board" and immediately started working a boat that would exceed the expecations of the 280/290 buyer?

Please keep us in the loop if you hear any news (that you are permitted to share) on the 280 replacement plans.

Thanks again,

Mike
