So I've had a 10 foot hypalon RIB since 2004. It has a rigid fiberglass hull and deck which is great but I didn't like the following things about it

1 - constantly filling up the tubes (not every day but every time i needed to use it)
2 - diesel soot is really hard to get off
3 - very small area to sit in between the tubes
4 - repair to the tubes over time (had to truck the thing down to Miami 3 times)
5 - finally, the tubes degenerated and the tender looks really old and worn out

I really like the "Rigid" brand tender, a great product but pricey so I looked for a fiberglass boat that was similar but less expensive. I found a new fiberglass boat, similar to a B Whaler but much less ($1,500). I can put my 9.9 on it that was on my RIB. It is 11 feet long with a 5 foot beam. I don't use it in the open ocean so I'm not concerned about it in rough water. The tri hull design should help getting up on plane.

I think the inflatable are a piece of crap, but have to buy one here pretty quick. Who ever said Zodiac's are tuff is full of it. Never had to work on a boat so much in my life, and then out in the water I"m fearing for my life because I think the thing is going to fall apart on me. Glued seams, go figure. The glue brakes down. Here, I am, going to buy a new one hope to get five years out of it with out thinking the bottoms going to fall off or engine when I a mile in the water with my two little kids. I'm suprised there not a law suit against them beccause somebody lost there life because there inflatable boat just fall apart.

I guess I got my money out of the RIB but even when it was in peak condition, it still had drawbacks. Here is a pic of my RIB in July 2010, it's in good shape here but went downhill shortly after

Is that the water in Delray Beach or were you in the Caribbean somewhere?? If that's FL water I really think I'm moving!

The spot is on the North end of Bimini. Very few go there as most like to go south to a place called Honeymoon Harbor (which is also nice). The north end is very quiet and peaceful. some pics from the north side....

Very nice, thanks for the pics. Sorry to hijack your tender thread but when you post pics of water like that, it's gonna happen!! :) Is the water in FL even close to that?

Depends on where. The keys have nice water but not as clear as Bimini. Sometimes off the coast of south Florida, the water can be clear but not like Bimini. Exuma has the clearest water Iv'e seen

Where did you get the dingy?
It looks good. I need a new one and what you got looks just like what I need.

I got it at Gulf Coat Boat Sales near Tampa Florida - 877-470-5159. the Boat is made by Saratoga, maybe it is available on the west coast.

Congrats, very cool little skiff.

Always nice to add a boat to the fleet.
How heavy is it, are you going to transport it?
Looks like a GREAT deal @ 1500 clams..

That will outlast any inflatable.

How heavy is it, are you going to transport it? without the motor it is 190 lbs, about the same as my RIB. I have a hydraulic lift on the transom of the Odyssey. Funny thing is that the RIB is almost 6 feet wide at the widest point (outside of tube to outside of tube at the stern). This dink is 5 feet wide but has a ton more room.

That will outlast any inflatable. My thoughts exactly

by the way, the nav light I found is really cool. take a look at this .....

You know what else that nab light is good for? Poker table! I bought one to use at anchor...

AB makes an aluminum tender....[h=2]Aluminum Hull RIBs[/h]High-quality, marine-grade aluminum makes a lightweight and solid boat, good as a go-fast powerboat or easily-towed dinghy.
Alumina15_large.jpg

Alumina - Console Tenders
AB Inflatables is the only manufacturer offering aluminum-hulled RIBs under 15' in the US. which resist abrasions from rocky shores, coral and sandy beaches. To provide maximum performance with minimum horsepower, the boats weigh nearly 25% less than all other fiberglass models. Models range from 11 feet to 15 feet.

Lammina - Aluminum Tenders / Dinghies
Lammina is the first line of marine-grade, aluminium tenders, rigid-bottom inflatables to reach the U.S. market. These boats are tough and lightweight. Models range from 8 feet to 14 feet.

it looks like a very well made boat but the 8 foot model (very small) is $3,500. The 10 foot model is $4,400. I wanted something that held more people and didn't have inflatable tubes.
