I figured this would be useful to anyone who wants an easy drop in replacement for a Sea Ray around the age of mine with similar stock equipment (I have a 2002 240 SD). I'm not quite ready to drill holes in my boat (yet :)) so I wanted something easy that would sound better. I also had the challenge of finding a remote that could replace the stock remote without having to replace the lower dashboard. My stock system was a Clarion XMD2 with a M201 RCS remote paired with Clarion 1602 Dual Cone Speakers.

I replaced this with:

Head Unit - JVC KD-X33MBS
Remote - JVC RM-RK62M
Speakers - Polk DB651

The remote is almost a perfect fit, but it's just a tiny bit too large. However I found an easy solution - I was able to get it to flush mount just about perfectly by using an electrical gasket from Lowes (This one ->

The speakers fit perfectly into the existing screwholes.

While this isn't as nice as having a subwoofer (that's probably coming at some point :)) and a separate amplifier it sounds quite good and MUCH better than the stock system. It's a very easy upgrade that required no drilling or cutting of fiberglass.

It looks great. I like it when people get creative and repurpose other parts like the lighting gasket.

Great job! And I bet you now have Bluetooth technology! I saw some postings about eight pin versus five pin remote jacks. Was that an issue for you? I guess I need to figure out the model on board. I think parts manual says CM D4.

I removed the existing remote plug since the new remote just had 4 (IIRC) wires coming off the back. On a 240SD it's pretty easy to get to the wiring behind the dashboard. The new stereo used a different sized connector plug as well so I ended up just cutting all the wires and using bullet connectors to connect them to the plug/wires that came with the new stereo. It wasn't very difficult; most of the wire colors (for speakers, etc) matched up.

LKN,

Thanks for posting. We purchased the same boat (02’ 240 SD) a month ago and love it. It still has the original Clarion without a connection for an external music source. Looks like a great solution. Are you still pretty happy with the stereo? Anything you’d do differently?

Thanks again!

Jon
