Look what Daddy got from UPS today! Bought a new steering wheel to update the one on my '01 410DA. Boat is tucked away for winter but can't wait to install this baby.

I've toyed with the idea of upgrading to this specific wheel but was put off in part by the price quoted by MarineMax. I spoke with SeaRay support today and they cannot tell whether this wheel will fit my boat, a 2008 330 Dancer. I was able to find one at a reasonable price $399 on eBay today with the option to return it if it does not fit. It arrives next Monday. I will report back once I've had an opportunity to install it on my boat. I would highly recommend looking at how each boats wheel is keyed in, because there are wheels that won't fit. If anyone cares, I have pics of the rear assembly of the wheel.

Curious... Why couldn't Sea Ray tell whether or not the wheel would fit? I spoke to two different folks and they said that any 3/4" standard tapered shaft wheel will fit on any boat equipped with a SeaStar helm pump. I hope they are right as my wheel doesn't come with a return policy!

The rep said for my model and year, 2008 330DA, there is a replacement wheel but not the one we are speaking about. The wheel you purchased is for 2011 and later boats ranging from 310 to 370 Da. No idea why. He didn't say it wouldn't fit, he just could not endorse it because the manual he had specified a different wheel for replacement. No mention was made of a SeaStar pump or the ¾ taper you mention. It's a crap shoot at this point, but we'll know the answer next Monday.

I heard the same thing about 2011 boats originally, then dug a bit deeper and had two Sea Ray reps tell me that it would work for my 2001 boat. We'll see. I was going to wait until later this off-season to install it, but I'll probably do it sooner than later now. I may have to list it on eBay myself if it doesn't work!

Pull the center cap off and I bet there are 6 hex screws. Remove them from your old wheel and screw this one right into place. No need to mess with anything else.

That is my understanding as well.

Speaking of steering wheels... How would one go about re-centering the wheel? I tried to search for a thread but could not find anything. I was thinking that I could loosen some screws, adjust, and re-tighten. From the above image, it looks like there is a notch that keeps the wheel on the steering shaft in one position. The steering on the 340DA is hydraulic not cable, but i am hoping there is a simpler way than dealing with the hydraulic fluid, etc.

Thanks

First of all, really hope that the 6 holes on the existing wheel match up with the rear assembly of the new wheel. If all I need to do is remove the center cap on the new wheel to access those screws, that would be awesome. Will post on Monday.
As for centering the wheel, forget it. The 6 holes are spaced in such a manner that it is just the luck of the draw. I can get close, about 1 o'clock wheel vs center, but due to so few holes it won't ever be perfect. Having said that, if you wanted to re drill all 6 holes, yeah you probably could line it up. Really poor design imo.

Bryan, also just noticed the notched key design on the existing wheel. It does not match the key on the new wheel.

If you remove the 6 screws you will not have the 3/4: tapered keyway you see in the picture above. Hopefully these holes line up and all you have to do is remove the old one and screw this one in. I hope my new wheel comes in today.

I really really really hope the holes line up. That would be awesome.
