Hey folks...

Last boating season turned out to be a pretty crummy one for Janet and I. I laid off on blogging because...well maybe I was bitter? Who knows?

Anyway, a new season is upon us and I've written a new blog about why last year wasn't so great. I hope you enjoy...

Hey Mark,

I just read the blog entry and all I can say is, man that sucks! I'm sorry to hear about you & your wife's ailments. Did you get your ACL repaired or do you plan to curtail recreational sports? Did your wife regain full range of motion in her knee? These are the kind of injuries that can certainly negatively affect your boating activities in the future! I hope you guys stay free of further injury & get to enjoy your boat more (& have a better year in general) this year! Be well!

Hey Todd...

Thanks for the well wishes. It would seem the planets aligned last year to mess things up.

I have a history of bad stuff with my right knee. I haven't gone for repair on the ACL...56 and the doc says I should just last it out before repair because recuperation would be a challenge. I've actually found yoga, for old guys, to help to a massive extent! I feel great and am pain free right now.

Janet has had a rough go though. The replacement is having issues adhering to the bone on her femur. That means muscle tissue is having a tough time and there's a lot of knee swelling. She has a couple of months before they send her back to see if they can rectify the situation.

Attitude is everything. We both have positive outlooks and hopefully will see the end of this crap for Janet this summer.

Again, thanks for the well wishes!

Mark

Geez, that's terrible. Is the femur rejecting the prosthetic or is she having an issue with blood flow & healing? I don't mean to pry & if I overstep a boundary here feel free to tell me. Being a physical therapist, I had the opportunity to sit in on a couple knee replacement surgeries as a student. It was unbelievable to watch and understandable why they can be so uncomfortable too. I know the technology has come a long way since then with the integration of computer guided surgery etc.
Prosthetic rejection can be problematic but you are 100% right when you say attitude is everything. Continue to stay positive and hopefully things will get better for her!

Mark, in our conversations you mentioned having some difficulty but I had no idea what you two had been through. That really sucks. Here's our wishes that you and J have a much better summer this year, that her knee does better on the next go around, and that you two can spend a lot more time on AMFM3.

As a fellow sufferer of wife's ailments affecting life, I feel for you, trust this year is a wet one for you

Thanks guys.

Todd, doc really isn't sure what is happening. But he doesn't think it's rejection, just that it's taking a long time for the process to finish. But if it isn't better in 2 months they're going to do a bone scan to see if there's something else going on.

Mike, thanks for the note. We'll get down there to visit you one of these days!

Ian, I'll have a drink in your wife's honour and to send good vibes your and her way!

Mark all the best for a much better season.

Mark. the admiral had her right one done and it was not pretty. She has recovered but still has issues climbing the swim ladder even with three steps.
Hope your boating season is much better this year.

Mark, So sorry to hear of all the difficulties you two have had to endure this past season. We were disappointed you were unable to join us in Florida and hope we can do it all again soon. Maybe Homecoming 2014???

MM & Admiral

Holy crap Mark,I read your blog. :wow:

I hope this year is better for all.

Get well soon. :smt001

Hey Mike...

We'll do our best to be there if and when a Homecoming is planned! We are sorry we missed Florida too. Darn job can get in the way of having fun.

I'm doing fine now, we just have to be patient with Janet's knee. Thanks all for your kind comments.

Mark

Mark, the welcome mat is always out for you and J. Just let us know ahead of time so we can make sure we'll be in town. We'll find dates that work for all.

Wow! I hope this year makes up for the last. Well wishes from my family to yours.
