Hey gang, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the board. I will be picking up my brand new 2007 Sea Ray 185 Sport this coming Saturday. I can't wait. Is there anything I should know/do before taking delivery of my new toy?

This is my first boat so I hope I made the right choice. I always wanted one.

Initially I was going to buy a SeaDoo Speedster 150 and saw the Sea Rays were not that much more so it was a no brainer.

Anyways, I wanted to say HELLO :smt038 As for naming my new toy, I was thinking 'Sweet Xscape'. Whatcha think?

Welcome to the board! Congrats. on the new Ride  The name sounds great

Don't listen to wishtofish, he's only joking about losing your posting privelages... But if you don't get the pictures up, every time you run into a CSR member on the water or on land you will be obligated to buy the drinks!  :smt038

Glad you guys approve of the name thus far. Naming a boat is harder than naming a person or a first child for all that matter. Maybe I'm picky who knows? LOL

Believe me I will post pics of the marina when I pick it up. Pretty nice place and tons of boats. I almost started to drool when I saw they had some Bajas (those sucker as nice as heck). There was a yellow 185 Sport I really wanted however it was 4k more. WTH? I opted for the black one since it was more within my 'budget'.

There was this one guy with a brand new yellow 2007 F550 who bought a boat. Funny thing is he came in, looked around for 10 mins, saw the boat he wanted then handed the salesperson a check for 150k. I was like damn are you adopting? I don't eat much. Haha . Good for him though.

I was happy with my buying experience from Marine Max. Expect pics here shortly.

The only other names that I liked were 'Seaduction' and 'The Black Widow'.

Black widow does sound nice yet corrupt since my boat is black with red stitches and white leather. My friends (some being female) wanted the boat named after them. I was like if you help me pay for this, we have a deal. Sure enough they all backed out. :D I'm leaning more towards Sweet Xscape.

Thanks for the warm welcoming again. I should learn alot from you pros.

Welcome to the board. The name sounds great. Go with it. Getting a woman to help pay for the boat....forget about it. (Best New Jersey Accent possible)... :smt043

This is my first boat...

Hi and Congratulations on your venture into boating.

My advice is to do two things. One is free and the other is so inexpensive that everyone I talked to that did it said it was the best value in boating and glad they did it.

I have two recommendations:

#1) Take a boaters safety course. They are offered by the coast guard auxiliary, the local power squadron, the DNR and you can also take them online here http://www.boatingbasicsonline.com/
Upon passing this course you will get a certificate / wallet card. Many insurance companies give a discount upon providing them documentation that you successfully completed this course.

#2) I also recommend a FREE vessel safety check. You contact the local coast guard auxiliary or the local power squadron and if you are launched they may offer coming to you to perform the inspection. Upon passing this inspection you will get a vessel decal to display on your boat. One place you can go to sigh up for this free inspection is here: http://safetyseal.net/

Welcome Aboard  . Post some pics of your boat in the virtual marina :smt024 .

Yeah thats what I said trying to get a woman to help pay for it, not going to happen. :smt014 LOL

Sweet Xscape it is. I'm excited and wish I could pick my boat up sooner. I have to wait for my hitch to arrive. That's the only thing keeping me from taking her home. I should have some pics up shortly. Stay tuned gang.

Just read all my post and you will know what not to do. And for the name, I have over 20 hrs on my boat now, and am about 90% sure on the name, so dont feel bad.

Derek,
Since you are from Denver, I am assuming that MM will deliver your boat at Chatfield Res. as they usually deliver them there - keep your eyes peeled for a new yellow 175 with a black bimini (that would be me!) :smt038
The temperature on Saturday is supposed to be in the mid 80's!

See you on the lake!

Mark

Hey Mark, good to see a fellow Coloradan on here. You didn't happen to buy a boat from MM last Saturday did you? That's when I bought mine.

There was this guy with a yellow F350 and he bought the yellow 185 sport I was eyeing. He traded in his two waverunners for the boat. Was that you? If so, that's a really nice boat. I wanted yellow originally but settled for black. I'm still happy. I might have my demo this Friday at Chatfield since MM wants to seem to get rid of me? LOL Dunno. I will definitely be there Saturday morning. Keep any eye out for a 2007 black 185 sport.

Derek,
No, I bought the 175 (slightly smaller version, only the 3.0 135 hp) on March 20th - I keep it in my warehouse about 5 minutes from Chatfield so it is convenient, and I don't have to worry about it freezing! We have only missed 2 weekends (rain and snow) taking it out since!

I also tow with an F-350, but mine is a burgundy color! I traded in a Sugar Sand Mirage jet boat - we wanted to move up to a larger boat as the kids keep asking to bring their friends and the Mirage was just too small. We got the 175 rather than the 185 due to the weight (I tandem tow my boat behind a fifth wheel every once in a while) and the 185 put me over the hitch limit. I am now over length, so I am not sure we will still tandem tow - and I have some regret that I didn't go up to something larger (but it is yellow!)

I am still getting used to a boat that actually goes where you point it, and the throttle is more than an on / off switch!

I may also be out on the lake on Friday, as my kids are off school - I will keep an eye out for you!

Your boat goes where you want it to? At low speads, it is near impossible to go straight in ours. But I get what you are saying. We looked at the 175, but did not like the dog house in the midle of the rear seat. If it were not for that, we probably would have bought one. Do you have any pics yet?

"Your boat goes where you want it to? At low speads, it is near impossible to go straight in ours."

You should try a jet boat! :smt013 There is nothing sticking down from the boat into the water to keep you in the direction you are pointed! Any wind from the side has to be compensated for with power from the jet.....

I have pictures in the virtual marina!

I had to go check out my boat today at the marina. She was begging for me to take her home. Wish I could have. I'm awaiting for my hitch to arrive so I can install it then home she goes. I forgot to bring the digicam with me to take pics of the marina. Sorry gang. I promise to have pics by Friday. And more on Saturday. I can't wait.

Sounds like everyone is happy with their Sea Rays for the most part. Just glad I could finally have one.

As for going straight on the water, I don't have the boat yet. Once I do, I will post some feedback if you guys wanna hear it.

Don't forget about the trailer plug!

Oh believe me, when I was at the Marina I check out everything. Right size ball hitch, pin config, etc. I do have a question though.

I think the MDX uses a flat 4 pin config. The trailer is flat 5 pin. How do I go about getting this hooked up? Sorry for all the questions.
