1987 Sea Ray 268. Covered slip
Engines
7.4 Mercruiser
Hi, just picked up a 1987 Sea Ray 268 Sundancer. Boat is slipped at Lake Mead and has been all its life. It is in really good shape for its age and showed no evidence of water intrusion, hull, floor and transom are dry and solid. Big block Mercruiser has 900 on the clock but is still strong. Onan 4,500 watt generator has 230. This is our second boat as we needed something we all could sleep on and were tired of having to go home at the end of the day. Have lots of questions and looking forward to talking to everyone.

Thank you. Going to deep clean and get more pics this weekend.

Yes, for sure. We have been fortunate to stay on friends boats and now we have our own. We are lucky we can boat almost year round and we do. Now just need to sell the Maxum, anyone want to buy a bow rider!?!?!?

I'm curious how lake mead is doing actually.
Last I heard it was way low on water, has it recovered this winter with the snows out there?
I have read that it hasn’t recovered by any stretch of the imagination but it is not going down and is rising, so if true Yay!

We have gone up 17 feet so far rhis year and this has been the coldest and wettest it has been in a long time. The last couple of years have been really wet. We need more of this and also a renegotiation of the Colorado River Pact. It is a shame the lake was allowed to get to this in the first place.

That is exactly right. It is not climate change, and we are not in a 'mega drought'. The primary problem is the draw off the Colorado has grown too much. One in 8 Americans get their water from the Colorado. And far more of its water is used for agriculture.

And on Mead and Powell you really are overnighting in the wilderness. You can really get away from it all in a unique way.

There is nothing like spending a few nights only in the company of your loved ones, God, and beautiful nature.

Haven't been to Powell yet only Mead and Mojave. We regularly see big horn sheep, Coyotes, various birds and fish jumping. Plus lots of stars and were surrounded by mountains. Its a great place to take the family. We alternate between the high desert mountains and the lakes. We are very fortunate.

I'm glad to read that lake Mead is recovering and I hope that continues in the right direction.
So many people out West depend on that water supply, not to mention the recreational benefits.
I checked out some satellite shots of the lake over the years and it is down quite a bit.
My other question is, just curious, what do they do about the boat ramps if the water goes out too far beyond the ramp area? Do they move the docks out as the water level lowers and then move them back in??

Tha ramps either get moved or rebuilt, they are made up of very large concrete blocks. They are finishing up the marina move in Callville Bay and power was restored Sunday evening. The marina now sits in about 110 feet of water and should be good there for a long time. A temporary launch ramp was installed there as well. It is one lane and you have to back down about 300 feet. Watching the lake lice maneuver their trailers will be fun this year. So glad we have a slip and don't have to deal with that anymore.
