Hi all:

Just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the good information you guys have put on this board for all of us potential Sea Ray owners.

We have just put a deposit on a 2006 260 DA (60 hrs) and are very excited and nervous. I have been looking to make the jump into a cruiser for a long time now (current boat 1998 Stingray 220LX bowrider) but could never stomach the entry fee. Finally broke down and could not fight off new boat fever any longer!

I have read all the pros and cons on this site about the 260 and almost ruled it out but we needed a trailerable boat as we want to try out the ICW. Our home base is Lake Wylie SC.

Our boat is black with no bottom paint, has the 6.2 L engine, camper canvas, and generator. It has no spot light or windlass which I want to add but the labor looks scary.

Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks again,

Kendall Davis

Did you buy from Lake Wylie Sea Ray? They are a great bunch of people. They'll take care of you even when Sea Ray won't. There are a couple of members that use Lake Wylie, I used to, but I transfered to Lake Norman. Enjoy your new boat............and learn to use trim tabs! LOL Ya'll know I had to do it.
If you have questions about the 260, you have one of the best sources of info right there at LKW marina. Dave, he'll introduce himself I'm sure.

welcome and the best of luck with the boat

Hi IslandHopper:

I noticed you and Dave S are from my area and I read most of your posts concerning the tabs...I have sent Dave an email to introduce myself. When I test drove (sea trialed?) the 260 I was getting pretty upset with myself making the boat fall off to each side, come off plane and general squid stuff....my Stingray never required me to "drive"....

I worked with Steve and Larry at LWM and tried to buy there but they did not have any used 260's w/gen I liked and the new leftovers were just too expensive for us. I plan to use LWM for service as I hear they are a great bunch of guys and I want to support them on Lake Wylie.

One of our goals is to go to Bimini (sp) someday and your posts make it easy to day dream!

Maybe we can trailer to Lake Norman sometime as we have many friends up there.

Thanks,

Kendall

Welcome aboard and congratulation on the new to you boat. Lets see some pictures.

Hope to see you on LKN sometime. I always welcome new friends. Currently I keep the boat at Westport Marina in a dry stack, and I'm getting used to it. I have always trailered prior. If you need someone to help you figure out the tabs don't hesitate to call on me. With this 240 I have become king of the tabs.LOL.
Sometime in the future when your ready, you can follow my family and I over to the islands. Dreams are good, but you can make it happen if you want.
Oh, do your home work early and come on the Memorial day trip we are planning to Charleston. Mike

Should get the boat delivered early next week if all goes well. I will post pictures then.

Thanks for the welcome!

Mike:

I'm gonna read up on the posts for the Charleston trip and check the schedule. May is pretty crazy around here!

Thanks,

Kendall

Kendall, congrats on the new boat. Just my thoughts on your windlass and spotlight, leave it to the pros!!!!!! I had my marina do both jobs at the same time (on my previous boat) and got to watch them cut the hole in the forward deck for the windlass. Almost makes you wanna cry!!! Just think, if you don't position the template just right, you just put a skylight in your forward berth!

Scary thought!

How many hours does it take for the dealer to do the windlass and spotlight install? Do they have to remove the entire headliner in the cabin?

Lots of questions!

Well our 2006 260 Sundancer arrived yesterday and I must say we are very pleased.

Of course we had lots of drama with the delivery guy dropping me off in the water with two almost dead batteries....oh the site of me on my first day with the 260 trying to paddle using a life jacket as my paddle!

Finally dropped anchor to keep from going out to sea and used another anchor on board to throw and real my way to a close by dock where I plugged in the shore power.....wow what a day.

Other than that we had a great day and the boat ran perfectly. Thanks to Dave S. for the great tips on trimming the boat as this made a world of difference.

Cleaned her up and basically hung out with the family on the boat for 6 hrs....this is probably longer than we ever been out with the 3 and 6 year old!

I took a picture at our local (only) food establishment on Lake Wylie (T Bones)....hopefully it will upload. We were the only boat out but we were warm in the camper canvas.

Thanks to everyone for all of your help!

Hope to see you on the water.:smt038

What a beautiful boat! Now next year you can get the bigger blues and start dreaming for the next size or 2 up!

Gorgeous though! Best of luck cause we all know on here you WILL enjoy it!:smt038:smt119

Hi Kendall,

Welcome aboard, from another new Sea Ray owner. Just bought ours today - a '92 200BR SS. We will be cruising on both Lake Wylie and LKN, with the annual trip down to the ICW in July, near OIB.

Hope to see you out there!

Thanks for all the well wishes guys!

Spent all day Saturday and Sunday cleaning and taking neighbors for rides on the 260. Everyone seemed to like the boat and we had a great. It is pretty hectic coming from a bow rider to the cruiser....lots of stuff to learn. Had just a couple of issues but we have been working on them as they arrise....

Generator water intake would not stay primed but we narrowed that down to a broken drain screw on the intake sea strainer and patched with duct tape until I can find the drain screw. Genny was sucking air through this hole.

Galley faucet leaks if there is pressure on it....Dave S has sent me a link to the manufacturer but it looks like a washerless design...so I may have to buy another kit.

Main sliding door is hard to open due to a falling headliner....major project....need motivation...rather listen to tunes!

I don't know if my trim tabs are working as they don't seem to make any difference when running.....maybe circuit breaker?

Other than that she seems to run and handle well.

Thanks for this community...it really helps to have other owners to bounce things off of.

NCCamper.....welcome to the club! Hope to see ya out there!
