Just bought a brand new '06 Amberjack 270. Looking for suggestions and advice from similar owners. I am new to SeaRay and new to boat with trim tabs and a I/0 engine.

I just took delivery the other day and on my trip back from my dock I was a bit disappointed with the handling. The boat was very rolly polly. Could be that I am not accustomed yet to the trim tabs. Water was a little choppy in the bay with a light wind. I hope the ride has to do with just getting used to the trim tabs.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

Joe:

It's going to take some time to get used to the new boat. I have had limited experience with both I/0's and Trim Tabs. Many others here will be able to offer some better advise. When I had this configuration, I would leave the tabs fully retracted (bow up) and the I/0 in the full down (bow down) position to get on plane. Once on plane, I would trim up the I/O to a point just before cavitation. What I did was look back at the rooster tail, while raising the I/O and as soon as the tail flattened down, I knew I had it up enough. I would only use the Trim Tabs to adjust the side to side balance or when I had an extremely heavy load on board to help with getting on plane.

The trim tabs are very sensitive. Do not over compensate. You basically tickle the tabs and wait for the boats attitude to change. Do not hold the button and wait for the boat to level, that will be too long and the boat will just go over to the other side.

Practice and play and I'm sure that you will get used to it and begin to love your new boat.

oh...Welcome to CSR, the best Single Brand Owners Boating Website.....great bunch of folks here......see you on the Bay....

Welcome to CSR and congratulations on the new SeaRay, there is a great group of folks here that are willing to help in anyway they can. To assist those that are trying to help, enter your boat info in your signature including engine and drive, that way when you ask a boat related question they can look at you sig and see what you have. We also have a virtual marina here that you can upload some photos of the boat and any modifications you may do. Welcome.
