Greetings,

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and our Sea Ray. My wife and I just bought and are first time owners of a 1997 330 Sundancer. This is our first boat that we have owned. However, I have been boating with my dad on his boats for over 30 years now. He still has his 1995 300 Sundancer with V-Drives that he has had for over 20 years. So, the new to us boat is very familiar or similar in many ways compared to what I’ve been boating on. We have her docked on Clear Lake, TX and will be enjoying the coastal cruising that Clear Lake and the Galveston Bay area have to offer.

We have changed the name of the boat to Tailwinds and are awaiting our new name artwork decals to be made and installed and our CG documentation to be processed. The vessel has newer Marine Power 5.7L Closed Cooled engines that have about 45 hrs on them and a newer Kohler generator as well. She had some recent new upholstery in the cockpit. However, there is really no canvas other than an older aftermarket bimini and sunshade. So, we are starting there with the updates. We’re having a new custom bimini and front visor with Strataglas being made now. Also, I am having a full custom cockpit cover made for when the boat is not in use to protect the cockpit and upholstery from the elements. I will probably have the rear enclosure made soon too, this fall at the latest. From there, we will be having new cockpit flooring similar to Seadek installed. Then, moving to the cabin, we are having the carpet removed and new flooring installed, a new custom mattress made, and replacing the 1997 green upholstery. From there, it will be smaller items like replacing the old worn out cabinet pulls and rosettes, updating all lighting to LEDs, and maybe a refurbishment of the instrument panel. Someone along the way, spray painted the panel pieces black (horribly I might add) and changed the instrumentation to white gauges and changed the steering wheel to a carbon fiber wrapped wheel. It doesn’t really fit a cruiser, IMO. We’ll see where the project takes us. Right now, we just want to get it protected from the elements and have some warmer weather to start enjoying her.

Calm seas,

Welcome and congratulations. Good idea on the full cockpit canvas. I have one and it great for when boat won’t be used for a while. A cc cover is way cheaper than upholstery replacement.
Good luck with it.

Loved my 95 330DA - Welcome. I like the helm gauges, and you have a nice audio system.

My advise: enjoy the boat, take your time, don't be in a rush to do projects. The boat will "speak to you" over time and you may change your projects and/or their priority. Canvas would be my #1 priority.

Tailwinds, welcome to CSR and thanks for sharing the pics of your new baby. I had two 330's, both 1996's with the 5.7's and loved both of them.

I put a pic of our last boat so you could see the aft bimini. I had one done like that on both 330's because we live in a desert area and I wanted protection from the sun. This design sure made it a lot more enjoyable to be on the boat in the summer when we get temps in the 100*-110*. Sorry about posting the wrong boat to show you, but I would have to dig out an old 'puter to find the pics of one of the 330's.

Congratulations on your new 330 - they are great boats
Looks like you're at South Shore Harbor? Good move on getting canvas made as it gets hotter than Houston without being under cover.
Hope that you enjoy your boat, warmer weather is coming soon

I agree, the canvas, flooring, and a few minor repairs are the top priorities. The rest are wishlist items.

Thanks! We are trying to decide whether to do a stock style, rear sunshade and the “slant back” enclosure, as I like to call it, or more of a camper enclosure which wasn’t an option on these models from the factory. Your suggestion may have directed me towards the camper, because we could then take the sides and rear off and have the rear shade like you mention here. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks! I am at a South Shore as we live real close by. I see you’re in Houston too. Maybe we’ll see you out on the water soon!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Others may disagree but I found the slant back canvas 100% useless when using the boat.

Congratulations
It's a fun boat and easy to maneuver.
I had a full canvas that attached to the small factory canvas behind the arch.

I was thinking about doing that exact thing. Thanks for sharing your pic. Also, I love that you updated to the newer Sundancer logo on the side of the boat. Where did you get that? Online, dealer?

Thanks

I was thinking about removing the stripes.. very clean look!

Thanks! It came like that and I kind of like it too. I will say that after many years in the South Texas sun and I assume many compounds and wax jobs, that you can still see where they were when you are close to the boat. I’m curious if there is something that I can do to make it not noticeable other than just giving it time. I know it has been compounded since they’ve been off and it is still noticeable. So, that is not the solution. Maybe a ceramic coat would make them less noticeable.

I think you and Saverio have convinced us to go with a camper enclosure. At the end of the day, I want it to be functional and I like the idea of extra shade that you mentioned. Thanks for the input and the nudge in the right direction!
