New non-winterizing process I'm looking at

As for the monitoring system... How far away from the boat are you & how flexible are you?

this guy is a slip neighbor of mine...he's demoed this system for 2 years now without issues.....I'm 2.5 hrs away but the system is set up to have local responders if something should go astray.

So how much does the monitoring cost? If there's an emergency does the response include remediation? How would that be billed?

This is strictly for the Lake of the Ozarks area right now I believe....pretty sure it says on the site that monitoring starts at $495 a year (41.25 mo).....the initial equipment expense and install would be what I generally end up paying for one season of winterizing and de- winterizing. I'm sure other questions can be answered on the site.

Well you wanted a discussion.

What happens in the event of power outage or ice storm like we occassionally get in the Midwest? Do you have a layup period on your insurance policy?

We do have some nice days during the winter months.

It's an interesting business venture, for sure. And I can see the enticement to being able to use your boat year round. I'm kinda 50/50 on it, though. I assume the various sensors and apparatus installed will allow the boat's systems to survive a hard freeze? How much do they charge to come down and winterize the boat if the power fails? One thing I noticed on there site was that it was mentioned, many times, that they are not responsible for damage done to the boat and it is your responsibility to contact them if conditions warrant that action be taken. What if, for some reason, you don't get the message that the power went out? I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate here, but those are some of the thoughts going through my mind.

The alarm system presented is a rebranded Simplisafe setup. Monitoring is $15/month for basic or $25/month to be able to control/monitor the system with an app.

The system is totally wireless. All motion and door sensors use 3volt Lithium 123 batteries, the water and temp sensors have coin batteries (2450's I believe), and the base unit has 4 rechargeable AA batteries.

The brains of the operation is the base unit which requires AC power. The AA backup batteries are good for 3-4 days.

The base unit communicates on the GSM cellular network, which has pretty good CONUS coverage.

I believe they have people in place who could go to your boat and winterize in an emergency at an additional cost of course....not sure what your asking about a "lay up" period on insurance...I know that on my policy if I don't "winterize" and it sinks it's on me.

good questions and one's I've thought of myself....Perry (the owner) has used this system for 2 years without issues...NOW....he lives in a Condo right at the Marina so he's there most of the time. Not getting the message would be a concern I haven't asked about yet.

I just cant see the value so I guess I'm missing something. You can buy off the shelf products that do the same thing for less. I have the same concerns with alarm systems.
You are three hours away, in a meeting at work & you get a notification that the engine bay temperature is at 30 degrees. Great. Now what? Again, I guess Im missing the benefits.
