Iowa - Mississippi River
Boat Info
95 Baja 208 Islander
Engines
454 Mercruiser w/Bravo I drive
Hi, just found this forum. Long time boater.....jon boats and other fishing boats....then had a Stratos Bass Boat for ten years, then moved up to a 95 baja 208 Islander 3 years ago and fell in love with pleasure boating. Currently looking to move up again to a small/medium cruiser. Currently I have a bead on a 99 Sundancer 260 DA. We boat on the Mississippi River in SE Iowa.

Thanks,
Mike

I wouldn't bother looking for a boat. According to another Iowa resident the boating sucks there!

You're going to get me in trouble Wish2Fish! I'm so lonely, would you be my friend?

Hey, not all boating sucks in Iowa.

I live 10 minutes from possibly the best boating area in the country, called Lake Okoboji... If you have ever been here, you would agree also. We have people from California and Florida of all places, come here for vacation, along with a lot of multi-million dollar homes here that people use only for the summer months!!

I am not sure about living here year round, but April - September are GREAT!!!!!

Ok... I thought I would get in trouble over this.

I never said that ALL of Iowa sucked for boating, just where I'm at. Which will remain nameless so I don't offend anybody from here.

I know for a fact that there is nice water in Iowa, I just wish I was nearer to it. It's just that OUR lake water sucks this year due to the rains & run-off bringing on algae blooms early & that last forever, which makes swimming, etc. not so much fun. Besides that it stains your hull.

Consider this an official apology to everybody in Iowa. I'm sorry if I offended anybody.

Please somebody find this guy a boat so this thread can close before I'm tared & feathered! :wow:

Not yet....

From here on out I shall be know only as "Violator"... in order to protect my family & identity.

And yes, I have on my tin foil hat to keep the satellites from seeing me, so don't even try to locate me using Google Earth.

Welcome Mike, good luck on your search.

Chris, you're just boating in the wrong water. Come over to the Mighty Miss and you'll never go back to Iowa lakes.

I am above St. Louis and the mighty Miss has been terrible this year. We are still above flood stage and it is July.

Thanks guys.... I'd love to try out the rivers. Maybe it's been a less than perfect year for everybody? Lot of rain here.

We are 2-3 feet high at Dubuque, not as bad as the reservoirs but still above normal for most of the season.

You Lake/river guys are so cute.

Seriously. Good luck on your search for the 260DA. Are you going to post a link to it so we can give you some advice?

Come west where you can enjoy 2 types of boating.

I even went scuba diving off my boat in the Mississippi a couple of weeks ago. (Actually in a quarry attached to the river.) I had dropped my St. Croix rod and Shimano reel and some other stuff in. After the cussing, it dawned on my that I'm a certified diver. I found the stuff just after I started my second tank of air. Let me tell you, there's not much life on the reef down there.
