I figured I better post here also. I just purchased a '73 SRV240 Weekender and will be salmon fishing and cruising on Lake Michigan out of Milwaukee. It has twin 165s, needs a little work, but the price was good enough for me. Now all I need is some nice weather and to sell my Glasspar Sedan.

welcome, and if you are a marine (jarhead) thanks for your service!

boy the gelcoat on top looks artic white just the way it came out of the factory! ha ha!

Sounds like a big and possibly fun project. Hope you have some fun working and playing on the boat!

Welcome aboard....Nice project....have fun....

Looking at the hull ports, It reminds me of the new design ports, only horizontal.....makes me wonder.....are we going to see vertical eliptical ports in about another 20 years.....HMMMM

Welcome, all you need now is a 73 Suburban and long side burns to pull that baby to the lake! We charted many years ago and had a great trip out of Milwaukee.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes my sign in name is from the Marine Corps, and I was glad to serve. All of the work that it needs is minor so far. The only things I may have trouble getting are the portals on the sides, so untill I do they'll be sealed up with silicone. Most of the work it needs is cosmetic which my wife will take care of. I also need to weld up a radar arch or mount it on a mast if the better half will allow it. I figure on sinking about anothe $1000 into it before it's done, but it beats sacrificing the other hobbies for a new or newer boat of equal size.

wish2fish, here are more pictures. The last one is what I'm looking forward to the most; the sunrises or sunsets while salmon trolling. This one is a sunset 2 years ago on the old boat.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. My wife is going to be doing all of the cosmetic stuff while I'm at work so I can focus on the minor mechanical repairs on the weekends. Monday she's taking the rims in for new tires and (weather permitting) hopefully starting to pull the electronics off the old boat  . She's enthusiastic and very good at helping me out, heck she can set lines and downriggers better than most of the guys that fish with me!
There's no need to thank me for my service, just remember those who have lost their lives for us. Yes I will be proudly flying a Marine Corps flag on the radar arch when I get it done.

jarhead, welcome, from (I think) the token Soldier on the board. I spent two years at Quantico going to school as a young Major, 1997-1999. It was a happy day when I crossed the finish line on my last Marine PFT three mile run. That last mile, when you are used to running two miles for time (Army standard), is pure pain. I had not done a pull-up since Airborne School at Ft. Benning, so those were great fun as well. I am more proud of being the honor graduate of Marine Command and Staff College than most of the Army awards I earned. I count several active and retired Marines among my best friends. I digress.
What a cool looking boat you have bought. I guarantee that the collective brain trust on this board can help you with any issue or challenge you have with her. I went from a 22' inboard ski boat, to a 260 Sundancer, to a 320 Sundancer, to the current 420 diesel girl in 18 months with great advice and assistance from the folks here. I do 90% of the work on the 420 myself and it is really gratifying (and economical)
Again, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome Skip. I was getting out as an E-6 in '98 when you were at Quantico, then tried the Army Reserve in 2000. That was too much of a change for me so it didn't last. I'd like to get a bigger boat some day, but I have to be able to trailer since my home port is Milwaukee, but I fish out of other ports here also. I was about to buy a 24' Wellcraft Airslot walk-around, but figured this Weekender would be easier to quickly transform into a family boat. All of the downriggers and rod holders will be on quick disconnect bases and all tackle will have a tidy stowage space for the quick transformation. I have about a month to get her ready with one day per week if I'm lucky to do it in, but I'll take some after pictures when she's done.

When you are ready let's start a post on kids aboard cruisers. There are some simple things you can do to keep the kids safe (unless yours are older and good swimmers..mine are 2 and 5 and only the 5 year old is a swimmer)
I towed my 260 for most of the time I owned her so I have some insights there as well.
And finally, my 420 was really badly neglected when I bought her. I've earned my fiberglass clean up and maintenance spurs the hard way. Lots of folks here have similar experience to help out.
Again, welcome.

Skip my kids have been on the water their whole lives from fishing and boating to duck hunting. They all swim like fish accept my youngest boy who is autistic. My youngest daughter who is eight is my die-hard fishing partner and pilots the boat while I'm setting lines :smt001 . I teach them as much as they can handle ans they all love being out there. I'm considering keeping the old Glasspar Sedan for my oldest boy's 16th birthday present, but with 3 other boats around and a collection of vintage motorcycles I may not have enough room.

Semper Fi Walt and Skip.
