Just introducing myself and look forward to the help I know I'll need from this forum. New boat, new marina, new location! I've got a lot to learn. Currently have a "new to us" 01 340 and a 230 BR we bought new in 1997.

Okay then.! Me too!

welcome to CSR.....I like your choice of boat....:)....looks like she is in good condition.....we love ours....

i don't want to cause you any concern, but I noticed the engines have the original 'log style' exhaust....if you are not familiar with the potential issues with this style of exhaust you may want to do some research with the topic being 'Mercruiser water ingestion issues'.....

good luck with the 'new' boat.....

Welcome Aboard! I love the location of the fuel fills, that would save me so much climbing around.

Welcome aboard and best of luck with the new girl. She looks really clean.

Unfortunately I am now "aware" of the issue. I mistakenly thought that it only applied to the 7.4 Horizons. So I guess they all have this issue then, correct? She is in great condition. 2 owner boat only fresh water. 580 hrs. on original engines and 750 on the gen.

yeah, all of the different engines in the V-drive cruisers from 1999 - 2001 had the issue due to the low height of the exhaust elbow......there was not enough of an angle on the exhaust tubes.....but the high performance big blocks had more problems due to the overlap in the valves creating a small suction pulling water in the engine through the exhaust....the good news is your boat is 16 years old and if it has not suffered water ingestion yet chances are good it will not...i would just be careful how you bring the boat off plane....don't stop suddenly and let the wall of water push the boat forward.....i have read where adding a spacer under the exhaust elbow also helps by adding additional height that the water would have to overcome before it entered the engine....there is a vast amount of information on the net.....i did quite a bit of reading on the subject before i bought my boat....luckily the exhaust had already been converted to the 'water lift muffler' style which was the way Sea Ray fixed the problem....the water lift muffler exhaust became standard in 2002....the 1999 - 2001 engines were mostly converted to the water lift muffler exhaust by local dealers.....if you have specific questions i might be able to answer them based on the research i did....

best of luck....

Thanks a lot. That's pretty much what i've come to find out too. I do have a Travelers policy that covers mechanical breakdown but hopefully won't need it. Do you have a battery suggestion? I have a dead starboard battery and need to pick up a new one for this weekend. Not sure what group size will fit the trays. Also, is AGM like Optima ok with the onboard charger? Thanks for the help.

welcome! If ever down river, We have a big crew out of Ditto landing. huntsville/gunterville area. made it up to Chat last year for a long weekend as well.

We plan on it. We used to be down at pickwick and traveled up that way quite a few times. Hope to catch up one day.

i don't have a battery recommendation....the batteries that were in my boat when i bought her were new so i have not needed to replace them yet....if you plan to spend a lot of time anchored out and/or camping overnight i would suggest considering Group 31 batteries for the house bank if they fit into the trays....they will run all of the electrical stuff longer than smaller batteries before needing recharging.....unless you run the genny then the size of the batteries is less of an issue...lots of differing opinions on using deep cell vs. cranking batteries.....my personal opinion is i would use cranking batteries that are dedicated to starting an engine or the genny....for the two house batteries that also starts one engine i would use deep cell batteries....i don't know if the OEM charger is compatible with the AGM type batteries.....someone will likely answer that question.....

Our dockmate on the last slip on C dock had a kevlar paddleboard stolen off his bow - he's moved inward now...

I went to school in Franklin back in the dark ages - great place...
