I got some Polk Audio DB 650 6.5' speakers for the boat but it's winter in Mass. I go in the boat about once a week and was wondering if it's dumb to install them now or should I wait til spring? I want to hear them now but I don't want to damage them by subjecting them to winter elements. The boat is covered and they ARE MARINE GRADE so it shouldn't hurt. What do ya think?

I'm thinking car speakers handle cold weather. Shouldn't be a problem for boat speakers either. Put 'em in and crank 'em up. Or you could play it safe and check with the manufacturer. They must have a customer service number.

Oh. . .it shouldn't be a problem. Bigger issue is power: are you batteries in the boat? Mine are in the back bedroom. . .

Are you gonna take em out every winter after you install them?
I think they will be fine....

I have a jump box that I bring with me for power. I was thinking about removing them for the winter. What the hell, I'm going to install them tomorrow and CRANK IT UP!!!!!! Thanks guys for making up my mind....

Break them in slowly - not too slowly, but I wouldn't crank them until after a few hours. Higher end speakers will be stiff. There is potential for damage until they loosen up. You will continue to hear improvements in the output for several months.

I put some of those polks in last spring and they are great !

Are those specific for marine application? or just regular car audio speakers?

Allset and they sound awesome. Not alot of bass(as expected) but the highs are mind blowing. IT CRANKS...
Now to tackle my corroded, rusty manifold bolts

Manifold bolts in the winter? Is your engine winterized? Or maybe your boat is stored in a warm building?

If the bolts don't budge, nut buster fluid and/or a torch will work. Last Spring, I had to get the manifolds off to do an upper engine rebuild (I had a stuck lifter!). A newer starboard manifold (2 years old) came off easily. The port side manifold could not be removed by a prior owner's mechanic, but I had to get it off! Several of the manifold bolt heads were stripped, and one was snapped off (Thanks to the mechanic!). I got one bolt off with a Craftsman backout socket set. Several I had to grind off the head with a Dremmel drill and grinder disk tip. The manifold was shot and needed to be replaced anyway! Once I broke the manifold away with some chisels, I soaked and torched the bolt studs, clamped on a vise grip, and was able to turn off the studs (Thank God!). I replaced the lifters (and 2 re-built engine heads unfortunately), put the engine back together (with a new manifold also), and enjoyed the Summer! This Spring I'll be doing cosmetic improvements only! Maybe I'll replace my stereo speakers!!!

The boat is winterized and outside. WHen it's warm out I jump in and tackle projects to get in the water sooner. I am just unsticking all the bolts so come early spring they will be easy to come off.
