Just installed new ice maker in my 36 DB, I left setting at factory set, but after only a week its icing up inside. Is this because its set too cold or hot, remember its in the 90's everyday down here. Thanks you guys!! Hope everyone is enjoying there summer ;)

What kind of ice maker? I have an Indel Webasto Isotherm model that makes clear ice. It can't freeze up because the ice bin isn't chilled. It continuously sprays water on the chilling surface, then dumps ice into the bin where it eventually melts and drains overboard.

If you have a white ice maker I think those can behave differently because the ice bin is usually cooled. Since it's new, is there a manual to consult?

Brad, Hey Thanks, Its a U Line I think, when you open door it has a layer of ice hanging from top to half way down, all inside seal of course..... Thoughts??? Manual doesn't have a trouble shooting section or info, of course.....lol

It's usually always humidity... If you are in and out a lot the temps drops quite a bit and takes a while to go back to temp and that creates the build up also... If you lose power for a while and not battery backup same thing. We usually dethaw ours once a month for build up

Also we have restaurant thermometers in our fridge and freezer so you can set the right temp... Comes in handy when you can't remember the setting come spring :)

I will try this, and post results later, thanks buddy!!!

Ours ices over as well. It makes lots of good cubes for drinks, but also lots of frost and ice on the areas outside of the bin. Nature of the beast I believe. I just dump the ice bucket over board and hose out the bucket with our transom shower. Leave the door open on a hot day and wipe it down after 20 minutes. Turn it back on and you have lots of ice in no time. Like the above poster said, do this monthly.

I agree - seems to be standard for the bridge icemakers...

It’s 99% the seal. You need to clean the seal and make sure it’s in the v groove in the door. Also make sure your door is adjusted properly. There are 2 ways to test this.

Test#1. Put a dollar bill in between the seal and the cabinet. You should feel resistance all the way around.

Test #2 put a bright flashlight inside the unit facing the door at night. Look for light.

You can ‘refurbish’ the seal by heating it with a hair dryer until it’s warm and massaging it back to original shape.

It's brand

It's brand new and everything is clean, but I'll do what you suggest and see what happens. Thanks everyone for your ideas, I'll test them all next time I'm at the boat ;)

If it’s new and doing that schedule a service call and let the tech fix it.

A quick way to de-ice it is to dump the ice into a cooler, and turn off the icemaker. Then fill the ice cube bin with hot tap water and close the door. 30 min or so later it will be ice free or you can break off the ice build up. Then use a towel to dry off the water from inside before restarting it so you avoid starting it up with a lot of humidity inside. The nice thing about the U-Line is it is pretty fast to fill the ice bucket once it is defrosted and turned back on.

A number of years back I installed a new ice maker and I was having the same problem. Someone told me it needed better airflow around the unit so I installed a grill in the cabinet to allow it to "breathe" better. Never had a problem after that.

What size grill Shawn?

The unit itself has a grill below the door, I think shawn was thinking he added another grill near the unit for extra ventilation

I'm going to order a few small grills and maybe install to help airflow, think about it, a house deep freezer or refridg has space all around it for air, these things not so much. Then again, I have serious OCD, I guess it's my back ground with commercial jets......lol

I am not seeing the correlation between air flow and the interior frosting up. If the freezer is not cooling properly your suggesting the interior is getting warm... De-thawing a bit then when air flow gets better or cooler outside etc... unit cools down and freezes again causing buildup?..
Here is a pic of mine with fuzz on the sides after 3 weeks... Doors have vent holes... Bottom of ice maker is where the transfer happens and there is a gap into the compartment next door.
Before I would put holes in my boat because of a suggestion on a forum I would take pictures of the install and send to the manufacturer and ask for their opinion on what you should do. Also your owners manual would tell you what you need.
