I'll start with saying hello to everyone. this is my first post. So my Question is that I can get a 79 240 weekender that is solid but needs a few things. Like a motor, steering controls and some of the woodwork has been taken apart. Somebody started redoing the woodwork with some sort of marine white plastic stuff. I don't know? The outdrive was just rebuilt. I would probably rip all the carpet out and redo it , All the cushions I would redo also along with any other little things i might run across.
I always liked this boat ever since I was a kid and my dad one. My uncle had one too. The one that I'm looking at was my uncle's but has changed hands a couple time's.

Ohh yeah I forgot to mention I would be doing all the work myself.
What would be a fair price for this boat? Would it be worth it or should I just save my pennies until I could get a newer boat.

Welcome to CSR. If you decide to move ahead Im going to suggest you put CSR in your favorites list. It is a great resource for all things boating. That being said, I guess the bigger question(s) should be...

1.) Do you want a boat or a project? It dosent sound like you will be on the water any time soon.

2.) Do you feel comfortable doing this kind of work? Keep in mind that after all the cosmetics, comes systems that dont work right because the boat was neglected.

3. As far as the boats value, you should search the internet for the same boat in a like condition. You might shop for engine, carpet & upholstery prices too. I'll venture to say that they add up to more than the original price of the boat.

I love projects, Thats half the fun . I don't plan on running it until next year maybe even the year after. I'm a carpenter so any of the work I feel totally comfortable doing maybe even a few custom things. The only thing I'm not an expert at is the motor. But my dad can help with that and i know plenty of friends that work on motors.
Basically the boat is clean and solid but just needs a little tlc. I can buy the thing for $300. Is it worth it?

Is it worth $300. Probably since the drive was rebuilt and is worth at least that much. But you will put in far more time and money rebuilding the boat than it is or will be worth when you complete it. Does that make sense? Only you can answer that question.

In my opinion, quality time w/ your dad working on a shared project is worth something as well. At least to me. As someone already mentioned, don't expect to get your money back. Good luck with your project. Sounds like fun!
