He says its a 1986 Searay Bowrider, and he has a 2000 motor in it, with a rebuild done in 2006, he says a 140 mercruiser. I am a jetboat guy, so dont know much about prop boats anymore. Here is the pics he sent me, tell me what you guys think? Any info you can give me and what to look for please let me know or tell me where to post this to get the right answer.

Thank you in advance, and you guys have a REALLY nice forum.

Interesting, a 2000 motor rebuilt in 2006....why the need for the rebuild in only 6 yrs? What is meant by rebuild? I presume it is a Florida boat, meaning it has the potential to be used year around.

From the pic, she's a nice looker....

I think you are looking at two different boats. The exterior shot is a mid to late 90s vintage 185 or similar and the interior shots are of an mid to late 80s vintage bowrider.

The interior colors just about match my FIL's old 1988 160BR. Also have a look at the panel shot. It has an 80s squared off windshield and the exterior shot has curved glass.

That is not a 1986 Sea Ray. It is probably from the late 1990's.

Check the Hull number, it will tell you model and year.

You got it, Yea I was wondering the same thing, b/c the side full pic of the boat looked newer then the interior suggests it is, and I really like how the outside looks. THe boat is a florida boat, it is def I say used year round, b/c obviously we love our warmer weather.

Monarch: I sent a message to the guy now to get the hull number, so I can get to the bottom of it. I havent gone to look at it yet, b/c frankly I want to have all my cards before I go see him so I am more in the know so I can see what I am getting/

VIN # SERV5548E686

Monarch is that what you need?

He says he got that off his title, so if their is a different number I can ask him for it. He seems pretty willing to give me any info I want, and also wants to take take it for a spin b/c he is very confident in how he takes care of his boats.

As others stated, they are indeed correct that the pics don't match. The exterior shot is of a 95ish - maybe a bit earlier. The interior shots would be correct to be from the 1986 era, so chances are the interior shots are correct to the HIN number.

Unless he re-used a lot of the old stuff for the motor, that is not a 2000 era 3.0L, much less a newer one. That looks to be the original engine (at least from the exterior stuff - what we can see in the pic)

How good of a friend is this?

Take a look at the Sea Ray archive site. Like others said the first pic looks like an early 90's:

Look at the rounded backend with the insets.

Here is the 86:

Much harder lines on the 86. Something is not right with the info he is sending you.

Hes not a friend at all, just I have my waverunner and he wants to trade it for a his boat with some cash.

I am a bit scared of the deal, i mean if its the newer body style as long as it checks out with a ppi I might do it, but if its an older model, I dont really like those boxy style boats.

Oh, I see. Well, I guess wait and see what he says about the pics and more info about the engine. But, it's not starting off too good, you know?

He sent me new pics, I told him, and yes its an older model, not sure if I want to do it anymore b/c I am not a fan of the older designed boats.

Run Forrest. RUN!

There are way too many good boats out there for sale to take any chances with a guy who seems by all opinions to be less the honest/accurate.

Don't be envious - look around all the brokerage web pages. Talk to a lot of boaters and dealers and anyone that owns a boat. There are lot of really sweet boats out there for bottom pricess. I looked for a year before I found the perfect first boat for my family. A guy on my dock (Maryland) just bought a boat in North Carolina. It is perfect and a great price. Good luck.
