I saw that. I am wondering what the addition of wifi is adding to the mix.

Can I stream Spotify? Usually that requires an app on whatever your trying to play through. My Onkyo has the ability, and you basically "cast" it from the iPad/phone/device to the receiver. It auto turns on, switches to the correct input and gives me total control from about any device I have.

Can I stream video? I was watching TV through my Tivo app on my iPad via wifi at the marina, it would be great to be able to "cast this to a TV and play through the cockit speakers

I just added a Ubiquiti Bullet and am getting great WiFi on the boat, where before the Bullet, the marina WiFi was useless. If this unit allows me to really utilize the WiFi, I'm very interested, however, I don't have enough info on this yet to make a good decision.

I'm watching this with great interest.

I would love to see a app that can be loaded on the Raymarine Axiom Units too so I would not need to add a remote at the helm or worry about having my phone there.

I think this is already available. I think we were discussing this on a thread concerning black box stereos.

With most if the control on my phone and a good MFD at t he helm, no need for a head unit or remotes.

Well maybe a remote on the transom...ill drop my phone in from back there

I believe you are referring to the N2K controls for generic stereo controls. Axioms are starting to get actual apps (since they are android based) and now have Netflix and Spotify that can send the audio to Bluetooth devices. What I would like is something that better reflects a full remote along with support for my Amazon Music Unlimited account app.

Also very true is my dwindling need for function on an actual head unit - just a good zoned amp with bluetooth. No need for CDs or DVDs any more. If my MFD or phone can stream my music I just need to play.

Correct...but I’ve never seen the actual controls, so for now I’m holding off on the upgrade till I can see what’s possible.

In my other post, I was looking for info on black box options, with the thought that these apps would be showing up for the MFD (I’m looking at axiom as well) making a head units redundant. I’d like to repurpose the cabinet the XMD1/CD changer currently reside

I am thinking you could put an Axiom 7 down there and network it. It would be great to have a MFD Media addition. Then not only would all the media be accessible anywhere you could also get N2K, Radar and Sonar Data, FLIR or Standard cameras all while in the cabin. I could probably even pull up remote cameras from my office or home from this unit with Wifi since I can already do that on my android phone. Its a converging world.

Just give me the apps, I'll run them on a Raspberry Pi with a 10" HD touch screen!

Very true, I am still looking for that amp!

I actually use a Sonos Connect for all of my music. The head unit is to just be a zone controller and volume. I would only be using the 770 as a pre-amp controller as I already have separate amps in place for zones. This head unit is a bit over kill for that but their Fusion Link app makes it quite desirable from a control point of view.

The WiFi is how they connect to the SRX400, the single zone head unit, for what they call party mode. The SRX400 does not have an NMEA2000 connector on it and has to be connected to the RA770 to be controlled by N2K, at least that's what there tech support said. I am not sure if the WiFi is adHoc or Infrastructure and either did their tech support group when I called.

On my Garmin 840xs, the media button connects to the Fusion head unit via the NMEA2000 backbone and I can control everything that the head unit does but from the Garmin. No need for an app as all the menus are there on the MFD. The Fusion app on my iPhone also can connect at the same time via Bluetooth so you can use both to control the Fusion at the same time. I was really surprised at the amount of options that are built into the NMEA 2000 media interface. I would assume that it is the same on the Raymarine MFD.

I'm curious to know if this unit will work with my es989

Garmin owns fusion so I would expect Garmin to very compatible.

Would love to see some pictures of the media screens.
