New Cummins Stern Drive Diesels for smaller boats

Am I missing something? The subtitle says:

"Company says main advantages are lower cruising speed, range and safety"

Huh?

I saw that too Gary and it makes no sense to me either. :smt017

It looks like you can probably get decent performance out of the biggest engine, the 4.2 liter. The smaller ones (I think) will have a pretty narrow market. The real question will be what the extra cost will add to the bottom line. In smaller cruisers with twin engines, the extra cost could be a show stopper. I guess we will have to wait and see how these things are accepted by the buying public once they are offered by various boat manufacturers.

I got a quote from my local Cummins shop a few months back on the QSD2.8L 170-hp to 230-hp model. It's supposed to be the direct replacement for the 305 and 350 Mercruiser Chevy based powerplants.

The price alone for the motor and choice of 2 different Bravo drives was over 20K, this did not include install, glass work, fuel tank and new helm accesories.

How about these? http://www.vw-m.de/index.php?id=6&L=1[/url]
