Hey guys, I am trying to help out a friend and I am kind of in the dark about incentives and pricing on a 280 that is a left over from 2006. I know the standard is 25% + off list is good to start but is there any additional $$$ now that the 2008's will be here soon?

I was start my bargaining postion by considering this boat an "average" used 2006 boat with low hours. Remember. . this boat is there because NOBODY WANTS IT. Negotiate accordingly. Do not overpay for a boat that NOBODY WANTS.

If pressed, I would escalate the price to "Clean" used 2006 boat with low hours.

If the boat starts to be priced anywhere near 25%+ off list (or anywhere near a new 2007 boat price), then I would abandon the negotiation and either buy a real 2008 boat or buy a used 2006 boat for a used 2006 price.

Just when you think you've seen it all... Sea Ray goes and inks a strategic partnership deal with none other than a DOG FOOD COMPANY! The questionnaire on that link asks more questions about your dog than about your current boat! This is definitely marketing run amok.

How about a strategic patrnership with ACR or Zodiac or something.... geez....

Gary, they are only concerned about your two (according to you....less than brilliant) puppies!!! You may get a free two years supply of dog food if you answer the questions correctly !!!

And they don't tell you what the incentive is?

That is nuts! You don't know if you are dealing with a $200 or $20,000 rebate! That almost hurts your negotiation more than it helps. . . . .

Don't complain...........that is to draw you into the dealer for more information.

You never see unadvertised rebates/price incentives on Sea Rays unless they are huge. In fact, on one 2007 at our dealer Sea Ray is offering $100K back and that is about 3X more than any previous promotion on a similar sized boat.

If you want a new (not used) boat and are willing to accept a 2007 leftover in inventory at a dealer, this may be the best buying opportunity of the year. At the rebate levels offered right now, its hard to imagine that they won't clear out leftovers quickly. Gambling that incentives will get better in the fall may mean you miss your boat entirely.

And if you want to know what the incentive money is on a 280, walk into your Sea Ray dealer and ask. The marketing types at Sea Ray that have made their alliances with dog food companies don't even have to know.

Thanks, I guess the deal with incentives is, you may or may not know that they are available, and that the true dollar amount is probably never known.
