New boat owner on Lake Erie

I'm definitely very new to this, and I don't know how it'll play out, but I bought a boat because I want to be boating. It'll take a little longer overall to get to the islands keeping the boat in Toledo than it would if I kept it over in Catawba, but I think I'd rather be on the water for that extra time, as opposed to more time in my car. Plus, this way a cruise up to Lake St. Clair is also easily doable. Also, I can easily head up after work and take a short evening cruise. We may end up not liking it this way, but that's why we chose to try it. If we don't like it we can always move.
Agree with your reasoning and nice to have the boat close to home. I'm also from the Toledo area and have kept boats here but have been out at Catawba Island Club the last 6 years. Water is MUCH nicer out there, lots more destinations, less concern about shallow spots and logs and nicer facilities (CIC). I understand wanting to take a few longer trips, but you will find that you are running thru lots of fuel if you go to the islands frequently and FYI, Lake St Clair is the same distance from Catawba as TYC!

Yeah, but I'd have to drive an hour in the wrong direction before I start the trip on the water!

Doug, my man, who told you that? My boat is 8 miles, 15 mins from home. I often go there at 6am before work, at lunch time at 12, then at 4pm after work. No such thing, further you will use more.
It is more of a vacation when it is further away. And you meet boaters that are not just in your area. Also no surprise visits from the ones the boat was bought for to get away from.
One other point having to head back to Toledo in a Noreaster a few times from the islands changes one's thinking about docking in Toledo.

Yes, we are engaged in yachting, repairing it, etc., but it is not exactly what is in the sphere of our interests and is the dominant part of our life. The yacht and yachting for us is not a goal, but a means to realize our spiritual and cognitive goals... Yachtsmen say that yachting is maintenance and repair of the yacht in interesting places of the world. Most cruisers live with maximum economy, trying not to spend an extra dollar. And we decided to go to yacht rental near me for the first time too to try something out of the ordinary.

Congrats! I too was looking at that boat, but didn't get a chance to see her in person. How are you planning to ship her?
This thread is 2 years old. The OP received the boat May of 2021. You should read the whole thread... shows it on the truck.

D'oh! Thanks @JimG. I'm still training my eyes where to look on this forum. Plus he mentioned a black 510 in Pompano Beach, just like the one I've been tracking. Anyway, his comments about trucking the boat were helpful.

Anyone still have a boat at son rise in sandusky. Looking at a 480my that is there.
