Two things I would change right up front:

1. Make it easier to get to Forums. The only way I see is the tiny "Forums" choice on the Site Navigation panel.

2. The hightlight message topics on the front page are nice, but why are they cut off after only 3 or 4 words? That leaves all that space after the words. You can't even get interested in 3 words!

Since that's where I spend 99% of my time here, I just bookmarked it at that point. When I choose CSR from my favorites, it goes straight to 'forums' section.

I hope I get used to this new format. I find the icons for thing like "Reply" to be so tiny that they are almost unreadable. Also, there seems to be a great deal of wasted space. With this new format, and this thread, if I don't scroll down, the first two posts don't even fit on screen. It would be nice to be able to choose a different 'skin' so that I can tell where one post ends and the next begins, read the icons, and such.

Maybe some of this is selectable and I have not found it yet. I would like to turn off the top section of posts that have an icon, the poster stats, and most of whatever else is there.

Use the links bar in IE - its my most used feature. Drag the CSR icon into the links, then right-click it and rename it CSR. Alphabetize and short-name them all and clean out the crap thats in there by default. I have 31 across IE7 just below the address bar.

May be it's just me, but I don't see an easy way for posting new threads. It would make sense to have it either on Home page or Forum page. I think it was clearly accessible on the old server.

Alex.

I said that wrong. The icons themselves are OK in size, but the text is small and unclear. The problem is that they are images, not text. So if you hit CTRL-+ in the web browser to make the text bigger, they stay small, since they are not text.

I bought reading glasses for that purpose, 'cause it wasn't the text, it was my eyesight ...

Doesn't this place have spam filters, or something to block the spam like this ?????:smt100

That's a change I would like to see, all else is very easy to use.

I think the banner above the orange "Post Reply" button is waaay too large. It could be 1/3 the size and still perform the same function. Making it smaller will move up the content, and we're all here for the great content.

That change would make me content.

It takes us a little while (like today 2 hours but we usually get to it to delete it.

The blue area at the top could be .5" smaller but would that really make a difference? If I made it smaller then somebody would tell me its too cramped.

The writing on the buttons is too small?

To submit new Threads you click on the big orange button that says "New Thread"

To get to the forums you click the big link at the top that says "Forums" or the little link on the right that says "Forums".

Wasted Space? Would you prefer banner ads like most sites? I personally like to see banner ads on sites I use as they bring random content to the site but most forum users find them annoying.

I am not sure what "Highlight" things are being referred to on the first page. All we have there are a few of the newest posts and some stickies that I have forgotten are even there.

SPAM? This is one of the least spammed sites I frequent. I have every measure I can find implemented. I can tighten up the reigns a little more but then I get people that can't register telling me how much the site sucks because its hard to register. This site is now getting a lot of traffic and is a big target for spam bots (you realize these are not actual people that do the spamming, they are automated scripts, probably 12-30 an hour hit the site). The mods and I are quick to jump on these so they are not see, sometimes you will see them, just skip right over them as when you reply it is not actually being read by the culprit as the culprit doesn't even exist.

So I hope I answered some Q's as to what is what. If I make the New Thread and Reply buttons any bigger somebody will complain that they take up too much space. I think we have the best looking boating site out there, hope some of you share the same sentiments.

If you see spam just hit the little red triangle in the top right corner, that is the report post button, report it and keep going, not sure but I think that will catch the attention of the mods quicker and guide them to the spam post then they can find the user and delete everything necessary.

Admin and mods you do a great job, keep it up.

How about making a place where we could build an MMSI directory by state? That way, we could print out the list of fellow CRS members in our area and take it with us on the boat. Never know when you might see a familiar boat or person off in the distance while you are out running around.
