?
I just got a look at a 8.2 Mercury Horizon. From the looks of it they have made some good improvements in serviceability. There is a 380 hp and a 430 hp version. This engine will come with a catalyst system that looks real easy to service. I wonder if it will hold up as well as the 8.1? That 8.1 I believe was the most reliable big block motor ever used in the marine industry. It is expected to run about $1500 more than the 8.1's.

Did you get any specs on fuel burn? The press release indicated it is more efficient and more powerful than the 8.1. As for more powerful, would you really notice 5 hp?

Yeah, I always get a laugh about those types of sales ads.

But, on the other hand, it all depends on the torque curve. If that T comes in earlier and stronger...

HP is just a theoretical number, anyway.

I'm curious to see how this "502" turns out, too.

SO which engine block is this 8.1 based on?

The 8.1 is basically the older generation 7.4L (454 cu.in.) GM engine that has been bored and stroked to 496 cubic inches.
