Pentagon Federal Credit Union has been great!
1987 410 is a nice boat. About $50-60k. It may be tough to find a lender for a 34 year old boat. Maybe a home equity loan would work better.
For an unsecured loan, that's a solid rate all things considered.
I got 4.84% with Lightstream a few years back.
Pretty simple loan to obtain when other lenders said the boat was too old.
For an example of rookie big boat trials and tribulations, check this thread out:
I just read through 3/4 of this story. It is like watching the Truman show with Jim Cary.
Many if not most lenders shy away when older than 20 years. Light stream doesn’t care, no problem that mine was 28. Not sure I told them the age, I think I just said what amount I wanted to borrow then was approved in 2 hours.
Just when I thought I had scoured every corner of CSR!
Looks like it’ll take a couple whiskeys to get through that thread. Awesome.
So you can all breathe easy, we’ve decided to hold off. Going to buy a small bay boat for the time being. Get our sea legs and stack cash for a Sea Ray down the line. Something much newer than what we were looking for.
The two of you I’ve talked to via PM (and met one of): I greatly appreciate your guidance. This has been really eye-opening to the world of yachting.
The ones who were here for a dumpster fire: sorry to disappoint.
Those who were constructive: I appreciate your posts greatly.
All-in-all, you guys saved me from myself. Much grass.
Hope you find something you like and works for you! Boating is a great thing - best luck to you.
Thanks. A bay boat checks all but one box, and what we are looking at can stay at home for free. But we’re gonna wear the paint off of it. Going with new. First we learn the boat, then become serial fish killers.
buy the bay boat and next time buy one big enough to carry the bay boat
This from a self proclaimed cheapskate.
Imagine reading/following that thread live, unbelievable crazy. Hope you are well Rob @rszarka

This is what I love about the community here.
Even if you did pull the trigger and buy the big boat for the most part all on here would of walked you through your purchase and give advise as you learned the in and outs of taking on such an unknown endeavor!
However two of us stood up and one even made the time to meet with you and from you having an open mind and his advise put you in a boat that you will enjoy and teach yourself and family about boating.
When you are ready for that bigger boat we all will be here to give advise as needed and wanted.
Thanks a lot!
Um,... you may want to read the thread.
+1 for LightStream, owned by SunTrust, which I guess is now Truist.
Maybe the best quote of the day. And I've slipped at this marina before
Sounds like my kinda place! Bet the waiting list is years.
